scottish flights

Hi I am looking at packages for March 2013 and some operators seem to come up with a price ok while others say no scottish flights available. Anyone any tips re flight days/airports from scotland at that time of year? Would prefer Edinburgh but I think they are later in the year?

Virgin go from Glasgow, we fly ever year from Edinburgh but don't have a package, there are no direct flights our preferred route is via Newark.

Hi there, IIRC that is too early for the charter flight start, end May to early Septemberish. Try the airports own website, usualy I have searched the charter flights in the where we fly too section. These days I just book myself usualy an indirect flight to NY and connect on or route through London but I have also gone via Dublin and Aer Lingus. We got a cracking deal for stauing on property at OKW this October with free dining and heavily reduced accomodation, have a look at Disney UK and see what accomodation deals they have on offer, then have a look at the Kayak flight finder site.

We flew from Glasgow to Philly to Orlando a couple of years ago with US Airways and it was really good. That was during September and I'm not sure if they run seasonally or not...

Thanks for the tips, so I take it most people seem to book flights and accomodation seperately, when I looked at that it seemed to be really expensive, maybe I am looking for flights at the wrong time? Am looking to fly out the weekend of 23/24 march as thats when the kids finish school.

We have flown BA from Aberdeen to heathrow changed to Gatwick and on to orlando from there. We have only done this once as we found the transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick and the reverse to be a bit much for us.

Aer lingus from Edinburgh to Dublin and then onto orlando. This will be our third year in a row fyling with them. they do the same route from Glasgow but the prices can vary a lot between the two,

Flights around school holidays are much more expensive than at any other time due to high demand.

Virgin we have found to be far too expensive for us though it would be nice to fly direct.

The direct options are Thomas cook and first choice and they only fly into orlando Sanford. They can be cheaper options but you will most likely have to pay for a transfer to your hotel.

Check out the prices on the airlines website as well as the comparison ones can be much higher.

Booking DIY for us has worked out better but for some the package option works better. Complete orlando get some good reviews on here and they offer packages.

We're doing EDI via LGW to MCO this year with BA.

Last year we did EDI-EWR-MCO which was fabulous (Continental)

In 2010 we flew direct from GLA to MCO with VA - never again!

Prior to that we always flew from MAN to the US and arranged our own connections from here separately. I also prefer Edinburgh to Glasgow and in 2010 and last year, searching for flights 10 or 11 months out, they were consistently coming up cheaper from EDI. I mentioned this to a fellow Glaswegian a few weeks ago, and after her own searches, she reported the same findings so this may well work in your favour.

We have stopped doing packages with flights now. I always check out the deals before dismissing them but they have failed to come even close to matching the better prices I've been able to find by doing DIY the last 3 years.

I know you said Edinburgh but I don't have alot of knowledge when it comes to there as I'm based in Glasgow.

Basically, Virgin only fly from Glasgow on Saturdays and Sundays from March to October. As has also been mentioned you can get both Glasgow/Edinburgh with BA via Gatwick or United (Continental) via Newark.

I recently looked into Aer Lingus and from Glasgow I think it was Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays they flew via Dublin and similar to Virgin in that it's only certain times of year.

Personally, my preferred route is United via Newark as I've never had a bad flight with them (even with the delays and longer flight due to the ash cloud in 2010) and I like clearing immigration in Newark so we can literally walk out of the airport at MCO. But really, I have no real loyalty to any airline, I go with what's cheapest! And if Edinburgh happens to be cheaper than Glasgow next year then I'd happily take that as well

Thomsons are doing a trial from Edinburgh to Sanford in July one a week I think, maybe if they are successful they will become more regular.

Unfortunately, not really an option for me as we choose not to drive over there and I love the easyness of MCO. Having said that after seeing all the bargain last minute fares recently I have been contemplating Sanford but I think I'd still rather pay the extra for MCO everytime Plus there's the fact we go outwith school holidays, can go anytime of year, any day of the week and most of the charters don't really cater for that.

I suggested that in post 3 but when I was checking for October they were MORE expensive than BA via LGW!

Kayak is a good site for flights as it will through up all end every flight option for you, even some very strange ones. Example last year it wanted to fly us out to Paris CDG then on to Orlando, times and prices were fine on the way out but it needed a 13.5 hour wait over on the return leg! Not happening.

Another vote here for the United option via Newark from Edinburgh. Used it a fair few times now and never had a problem *touch wood*

Did look at Aer Lingus from Edinburgh via Dublin but the huge wait time on the way home in Dublin put me right off that option.

If i could go anyway from Edinburgh i would go out via London for the ease of bags being checked right through and come home via Newark for the early arrival back into Edinburgh but alas doing that would break the bank

I think I might have asked you this before but is it United you're flying with on your upcoming trip? If so, how much were flights and when did you book?

I tend to check random dates on United every so often but haven't seen a good price in a while. Starting to wonder if my flight budget for next year is realistic or not.

Thanks for that, Linda. When did you book them? I'm really not willing to pay more than £600 each for flights but the more I read the more it doesn't sound do-able. Unfortunately, I definitely won't be going then.

We booked February time and that was more than I wanted to pay as well, but glad I did as the flights haven't come down. It is good to keep checking though you may be lucky.

Thanks again, Linda. I'd do Manchester if there was a substantial saving but while I wouldn't mind driving down there, I really don't think I could handle the drive home!

Just gotta play the waiting game, flights will be released in November but even then I might hold off as there's usually a couple of flight sales around Christmas/January

Booked earlier than usual this year on the 12th of January and got them for £589.
I do keep checking the fares and my dates were £700+ a few weeks ago and back down to £630 the other week. Today £601 , which is round about the time i usually book.

Pays to be patient i guess but you need nerves of steel these days to wait for the best rate
