I don't think the park scooters are allowed in Citywalk, so she wouldn't be able to bring it out of the park area.

Not true. They allow them outside into Citywalk. I have done it three times.

Awesome! Others had reported differently. Did you do it when leaving? Did you leave it at the security checkpoint? This question comes up quite often and it's great to have some concrete facts about it.

Left through the gates of the park, Went to valet parking entrance. My wife got off, I got on and returned it to where we rented it at IOA.

There are complimentary wheel chairs at the parking garage, if you don't get one there you can pick one up in the hub, before you enter City Walk. You will be charged $12 for the wheelchair, but when you switch to a scooter at the park entrance, that $12 is refunded.

Another option is you rent offsite but get a cab that can take the scooter. These are easy to get. We have had them pick us up at wdw and take us to the outlet malls. Same cost as any other taxi.
