Hi,

I have difficulties walking long distance or standing. I have a disability placard and a disability card in my state..

We will be going to WDW and staying offsite, based on everything I read, if I do rent a scooter, I should consider offsite rental..However, most of the sites require 2 day rental, I am looking for suggestions for pickup, drop off and transport the scooter... Do they drop off at the park and what kind of car do I need to transport the scooter to my hotel?
How do I go on lines for the scooter? can I drive the scooter while on the line?

I haven't really decided on the scooter, in fact, haven't considered a scooter until I began reading...in the past year, I used to sit on the bench to wait for the kids... therefore if I do not use scooter, I assume I can get a DAS, right? I think I can use the DAS to get a return time to get on the ride, what about DD and DH, will they get the same return time as well.... I have been reading, but am getting confused... If I have a scooter, will they give me a DAS?

thanks

I don't know much about the scooter rental, although there are folks here that can give you some great advice.

As for the DAS, if your issues are all mobility related, you most likely will not get one. Disney's response for mobility issues is to have an ECV, wheelchair or other mobility device.

Have a great trip!

Most medical equipment rental companies do rent ECVs that can be broken down in several pieces for easy transport. You will need a vehicle large enough for your entire party and the ECV parts.

No, not using a mobility device will not get you a DAS. OurBigTrip is correct.

We haven't rented a scooter from a medical supply rental but did rent a medical stroller and it was delivered right to our hotel. When we arrived it was there waiting for us. Typically they ask your arrival date and time and departure date and time. I presume that the drop off and pick up procedure would be same across the board for any product supplied. We researched dimensions, folding capabilities ahead of time to make sure we got one that was proper for our transportation needs. Not sure about lines since we've never used one I haven't paid that much attention when there.

If you haven't already, I suggest you check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread pinned near the top of this forum. There is information there about renting. Since you are staying offsite, no need to be concerned about "featured" vs "non-featured" vendors as that only pertains to WDW resorts. You would need to confirm the procedure at your offsite location (resort, house, etc.) how delivery and pick-up of rental equipment is handled. If you are staying at a typical hotel/resort, they likely utilize the front desk or bell services. If it's a private rental, you may need to make arrangements to meet the vendor personally.

Others are correct about the DAS. If your needs can be accommodated by a mobility device, WDW will not issue you a DAS -- even if use of a mobility device is not your preferred accommodation. An ECV can go through the vast majority of ride queues at WDW; at those not accessible a CM will direct you (and your party) accordingly. A few do not allow ECVs but should have a wheelchair available for your use in the queue.

Enjoy your vacation!

You can ride your scooter through most of the lines, a few you can't (like Pirates). With your parking placard you can park in the handicap parking areas and ride your scooter to the park.

What kind of scooter you can transport depends on your vehicle and what kind of vehicle you need depends on the type of scooter you need. I have a travel scooter that breaks down into 4 or 5 parts, the heaviest being around 35 pounds. It fits in the backseat or in the trunk of a car. A heavier scooter can be transported on a carrier on the back of your car if you have the right vehicle with the right equipment.

What weight limit do you need on the scooter? If you know that you can decide what size scooter you need and then what kind of vehicle you need to transport.

You should try the scooter though, they make a huge difference.
