Can you rent scooters at MK?? We are leaving tomorrow for MNSSHP, which we have been planning a long time, and my dad is very sick now vs when we bought the tickets, and he wont be able to walk too much around the park. This has all happened over the past month, but he is still going to the party. We just thought of renting a scooter to help him get around. Is this an option?? Should we call?? Any tips???? :confused3

You can rent scooters at the park. However, if you are staying for any length of time have one delivered to your hotel for the week or however many days you are staying. My sister uses Randy's Mobility - never had a problem. They drop off at your hotel and pick up when you are leaving and it is cheaper than renting every day at a park. Also, he would have it to use at your hotel and to get to the bus stop (assuming you are staying on site).

You can rent then at the parks but ask on the disability board. There are places where you can rent them and have them delivered right to your room at the resort.

I guess by scooter you mean the little bugies that have a basket on the front or back that you commonly see at a grocery store or mall. They do have these at the parks but not a true scooter(moped). I don not know what, if any the cost is but they have plenty of them. But I must warn you they are kicking people out of the parks that are getting these things under phalse pretenses(i.e. saying you have a bad knee then seen chasing your kid aound the park). Too many people have used these "scooters" to get front row seating and such and Disney is showing zero tolerance towards these scumbags. I believe in kharma in a big way and I read about two teenagers doing this trick at a Busch Gardens then on their ride home the car blew a tire flipped and both are know in wheelchairs for life. Don't know how much truth there is to that but it is not out of the realm of possibilty.

That is terrible!!! He has Coronary Artery Disease, had 2 open heart surgeries, and due for a 3rd, but is no longer a candidate for them, he just wont survive the surgery anymore. So he is on alot of medications, and is extremely fatigued, tired, winded easiely, etc. I wonder what we should bring or if there is even time to get a Dr. note or anything. I dont want to lug his pills around the park or anything as proof. Plus, I doubt we would get any seating benefits because of it, there are 6 of us, so that is pushing it I would think.

You do not need to prove a need for the scooter. You just have to pray that there is one available. We have actually gone to a park at the rope drop and rented one, taken it to guest services with the explaination of why we needed to leave it, and had them hold it for us, while we went to eat at Ohana one morning. One other nifty thing is that if you do rent at a park and want to park hop, when you return the scooter, keep the receipt. Take the receipt to the new park and they will rent you a scooter for just the key deposit fee.

We have rented from Walker Mobility and Randy's Mobility in the past for my mother out-law. Both companies served us well. Maggie

WOW, don't know where you got your information from, but none of it is true. Please go to the disabilties board and they can offer wonderful advise.

You pay anywhere from $25 -up a day to rent these. I am not sure how much they are to rent at Disney, but I do know that they are cheaper to rent off-site. If you rent from the park, you can't take them back to your hotel, so that is one reason I would rent one off-site for your whole trip.

There were no shows that you get front row seats in. Your seats are in the very back. There are a few rides that you use a seperate entrance for, but that doesn't mean you get to ride the rides quicker. At many of them you have to wait longer in a different line.

You DO NOT need anything from a DR. In fact, because of the privacy laws, they don't want to see anything. Please don't worry, you Dad will be fine and he will have a wonderful trip. If you have any questions, please ask on the Disablities board, they are very helpful and you will be surprised at how much they know!!

Sorry, I think you are misinformed.

"Scooters" AKA ECV's and or/electric mobility scooters will not get any one to the front of the line.

With the exception of the Make A Wish children there are no front of the line passes!

To the OP:
I would also suggest that because of mobility issues he should rent an EVC
(Electric scooter) from an offsite company.
I have limited mobility and have rented mine from Care Medical (800-741-2282) and Walker Mobility (888-726-6837) in the past. I would recommend either one. The cost is about $30 a day. The ones at the parks cost $35 a day and are bigger and have 4 wheels kinda like a golf cart. They are much harder to steer and to control. If he rents from an offsite rental they will deliver the EVC to bell services at the resort. He can use it to go to the pool, and get around the resort as well as the bus stop.

Almost all the Disney buses are accessible. I love using my EVC it gives me more independence and helps keep my pain to a minimum. If he decides to rent an EVC (which I highly recommend) s\he can practice using one at a local store such as Wal Mart or Target. Those are a little bigger than the rental ones but the practice will help.

Disney started mainstreaming most of their lines in the late 1990's. Those in WC/EVC will usually enter in the regular line and wait with everyone else. He will be able to stay in EVC until just before boarding most of the time. Sometimes the WC/EVC (and up 5 other members of your party)may be pulled from the mainstream line part way down so they can board the ride in an
Accessible area. *Note the EVC/WC user and his party are not going to the front of the line just to an area that will make the ride accessible to their party! EVC's can't climb steps so sometimes they need to take an elevator. Or they may need to board a ride where the riders usually exit in case
they need an accessible vehicle or need the moving sidewalk slowed or stopped so they can board.

You can pickup a book for Guests with disabilities at Guest Services or you download a copy of the book which is posted on the disABILITIES board.
Have fun at Disney!

What a bunch of PHOOIE - not a word of it is true

To the OP - Scooters are available in all of the parks, but they are limited in number. I would not count on being able to rent a scooter in the evening for MNSSHP. Most days the scooters are all rented out by afternoon. I've only rarely gotten a scooter in the evening when I return to the parks.

If your father really needs a scooter I would recommend renting from an offsite company. As others have said - check out the disabilities board for all of the info

Have a great trip

Just got through three days of using an ECV in WDW. Blew my knee out the first day we got there. It was $40 per day with a $5 refund on return. We tried to get to the parks early, but, we were rather late for MGM and had no problem finding a cart. The main thing about EVCs are that they are rather mentally draining.

Thank you for all the information everyone!!!! We are leaving in an hour!!! Had my father's illness not progressed significantly over the past few weeks, I probably would have had all this stuff planned out way ahead of time!! Thank you so much for all your help!!!!!!! He does not want to miss this for the world, it is our first time, and we are going for DS 4th birthday as well!!!!!! I hope everything works itself out! Hopefully we are able to do the same thing for MVMCP. We are going there this year as well for the first time, and it has always been his dream to go for christmas with us kids, well now we are too old but he has grandkids so even better!! (PS. We just moved to FL a few months ago, that is why we are going all the time. Taking advantage of our discount and close proximity!!!)

Thanks again!! I am off to get in the shower............................WOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!

I hope everything goes well and your son, dad, and the rest your of your family have a great time at MNSSHP.

I am hoping many wonderful memories will be made.

Happy Birthday to your 4 year old son!

Please let us know how it went when you return.

Have fun at the Party!
