Hi, I am planing on bringing my mother's socoter, rather than renting one at WDW. I just have one question, are there enough outlets inside the parks? If there are, where would I have to look to find them? I would hate for the scooter to run out of batteries half way through the day, forcing us to head back to the hotel.

THANKS!!

There are several places to plug in and recharge if needed. Best thing I've found to find them is to ask a CM. AK is the only park I haven't had to recharge in toward the end of the day. I will say that the outlets at Fantasmic! are difficult to use because of the covers. Just remember to bring the charger with you.

If your mother has access to someone who can check her batteries before she goes (preferably like a month in advance), it's worth getting them checked. With batteries in good shape, she may not need to plug in at the parks at all. While you'll be able to recharge in the parks if needed, it's not good for the batteries to get "topped up" like that rather than getting fully recharged (which, as you know, would take longer than you could plug the scooter in at the park). It can mess with the lifespan of the battery. Since its her own scooter, it would be better to make sure that her batteries are in the best shape possible before you go and charge overnight every night no matter how much battery power is left (which she should already be doing with her scooter at home). It would suck to accidentally mess up the entire battery because of topping up too much at WDW since good batteries are very expensive (but, I can say from experience, it's better to get the name-brand than the cheap ones; you'll ultimately save money with the difference in time they'll last). If she's had the scooter for a while, it's good to know how the battery is doing anyway (I'm fairly certain most scooter batteries aren't really supposed to last more than 3-4 years, like powerchair batteries).

Thank You for all the great ideas! It is a fairly new scooter. We will keep the charger with us and hope it will not need any charge.

Preventative maintenance is most important and getting the batteries checked would be a very good idea before your vacation. As previously stated batteries are not meant to last forever. Also, as previously stated doing small dosages of battery recharging at the park is not really a good idea. Yes, in an emergency, it's a good idea, but it's not meant to happen all the time. Besides, you really don't get that much juice from recharging for a short time, here and there. It's not a total recharge. Make sure you take phone numbers for some rental scooter vendors. Some of them sell scooters and will have a limited supply of new batteries and they can do repairs. I still would want a perfect scooter before I leave home; because, spending vacation time to take care of problems is not a fun thing. If the worse happens then you can rent on the spot from a scooter rental. Disney rents, too in the parks, but it's very expensive. Make sure you know how to manually move your scooter if it runs out of juice. There is a lever you move that will make the scooter much easier to push and move if need be. I would go to the local zoo or museum or somewhere similar with your mom for a trial run to see how long her battery will last for a day. I think this will give you a good idea on how long the batteries will last at Disney. If you are only getting say 4 hours of use before needing recharging it may be time to get new batteries. You should be able to get about 7 to 8 hours with good batteries. Watch the gauge on the scooter to see how fast the battery energy goes down. This doesn't mean you can't still use the older batteries, but I would use them around the house for short trips, not a vacation. Getting back to the original question usually you can find outlets near restrooms. I feel it's easier to find outlets near restrooms that are in the inside pavilions. If you are going to top off the batteries it's best to do it at meal times. Show times are also good; because, you will be sitting for 20 to 30 minutes for them. Conserving battery energy is important. When you're watching a show, seeing a parade or fireworks you should turn the scooter off. If you wait in any long lines I would turn the scooter on and off depending how long you wait until you move up in line. Scooters are treated as wheelchairs and you are allowed to use the handicap areas for viewing the parades and fireworks with them.

I agree with the PP about getting batteries checked and watching usage. I normally tour the parks from open to close, and have never had a scooter last the entire 12 hours without some sort of boost. While a quick charge helps, a full charge is always best so make sure your scooter is plugged in and charging each night. Where I've had good luck charging is during most TS meals. Ask a CM and they will try to place you near an outlet, so my 60-90 minute dinner (when the charge is wearing out) becomes a perfect time to get a good charge in my scooter.
