Scooter Recommendations?

I could have sworn there was a Scooter sticky, but I can't find one.

Anyway, I will be using scooter for the first time in October (Having the 1st of my two knee replacements in November  )

The last time we were at WDW, I saw this older gentleman in a scooter that had a shade cover over it, I tried to grab one of the little business cards out of the back pocket of it, but he was going to fast for me :rotfl:

Can anyone please recommend a scooter that has a shade overhang? I'm new to the whole scooter rental process, so I also need to know, do the companies drop them off and pick them up for you? How long do the batteries typically last? Are there any that last longer than others?

We will be staying at BWV, so it's going to be so convenient being able to drive it through the international gateway with no busses during F & W.

I appreciate any information you can give me, thanks!!

Most people who have used the sunshade have only used it once. They are much more hassle than useful.

Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Post 2 of that thread has a list of companies that DIS posters recommend. Most do rent sunshades for an additional cost.
That is probably what you ate remembering as the 'Scooter Sticky'.

But, I agree with Cheshire Figment that many people find they look more useful than they actually are.
They only provide shade when the sun is in certain positions. The sunshades themselves interfere with your ability to see, the ability of others in your group to converse with you and block the view of people behind you. So, one of those things that look better than they work.

Thank you!! I'll probably skip the sun shade, doesn't sound like it's too helpful. Off to check out Post 2 of FAQ!! :goodvibes

A hat that pops out like a small umbrella is just as useful and a lot less cumbersome. :thumbsup2

When we went in 2007 my dad used one. It was at the hotel when we got their and we also left it their when we headed home . It made it easier for him to keep up with us. He plugged it in at the hotel when we got back at night . We are planning our next trip in 2014 and he will use on again.

I found that in a bit of a wide-brimmed at and good sunglasses, I didn't miss the shade that much. We rented from Walker Mobility and were very happy. The only problem we had was not being able to call them late at night, but after that we knew their hours and were fine.

Thanks for the tip!! I think since we'll be staying at BWI, I'm thinking of going with the company that keeps ECVs on their property. That way, if something goes wrong, there's somewhere onsite to get a replacement.

Apple Scooters have a site that is just off the Disney property and have access to you even in the parks if you have problems. We have used them once to rent a scooter and once I called them for assistance with my own personal scooter when my batteries went kaput. Both times I can't say enough about how helpful they were. When we rented from them it was we called them at 1pm and the scooter was delivered by 3pm that day. You can't ask for much better than that. They might have even delivered it sooner, but we weren't there, but at 3 when we got back there it was!

I have even heard of them coming into the parks if you have trouble with you scooter.

I rent from Apple Scooters... their service is great and prices very very competitive. :thumbsup2 The scooter shades are more a hassle than a help as others have said.

When you get to BWV, go to the inside bell services desk and give them your name... they will retrieve your scooter from the back. When you're ready to leave the resort just return it there.

I will also be at BWV in October for F & W, God willing! I am currently recovering from bi-lateral knee replacement... right knee done May 14th, left knee June 11th. :faint: Getting older is definitely not for sissies!! :lmao: Good luck with your surgery! :goodvibes

Looks like we're missing each other by just a week! :goodvibes

This is my "Last Hoorah" before my 1st surgery in November, my OS does them 3 months apart, so the other one will be in February. I was so glad he didn't hassle me about my age (I'm 52), but I had septic arthritis that wasn't caught soon enough when I was 32, and enough is enough, I've been bone on bone for years now.

How did you do on your surgeries? How are you feeling now? I'm really getting nervous about the surgery, though know I'll be so glad once it's all over. I've been on bonesmart.org, and they're great.

I also used Apple last Feb in WDW. Using them this xmas for US/IOA trip. They're great, good prices, service and new (newer) scooters. I saw a lot at WDW from other companies that didn't look so great. I saw a few with the sunshades and they looked worthless.

Thanks for all the remarks and advise!! I reserved my scooter today, after reading the boards and doing research, with Walker Mobility (they claim to have the only scooters that are "rain-proof" (Me and DH are rain magnets when it comes to WDW!!) They even gave me a 10% military discount!. Followed EVERYBODY's advise and skipped the sunshade!!
