Need to rent a scooter for wife for upcoming DW trip. We are staying at the Polynesian. Lots of postings about scooters on the buses, but what about the monorail? Do you just drive on, or do you have to wait for assistance.

We also have a rental car for the trip, is it easier to rent a scooter that disassembles and simply drive to the parks?

Thanks

When using the monorail, you go to the handicapped mark area. Usually there is a CM there at the gate. When the monorail comes in, the CM will put a ramp down that you then just drive all the way in. Be careful though, if the doors on the other side are open, you could shoot all the way thru. Be sure to turn your speed all the way down before entering. The CM will ask where you are getting off, and will call ahead to that stop that you are getting off there. At your stop, wait for the CM to put the ramp down and go out (usually backing out). No real issues at all.

You do need to wait for the CM to put the ramp down on each end.

You have to wait for the cm to roll the ramp over then you drive up and when you get to your stop you wait for the ramp again if your staying at poly the you cold walk over to the ttc and take the ferry. Then all you will have to do is wait for the gate to open then drive right on the ferry and enjoy the ride across the lake.

I had some bad experiences on the monorail with a scooter. 2 cms were careless with the ramp and had it hanging halfway on which would have resulted in a nasty fall if I hadn't noticed. There is a surge when you get to the top of the ramp and an infant in a stroller would have lost his arm if a family member hadnt noticed the danger and just yanked him aside at the very last minute. I was shaking and crying at how close that was. I would never routinely ride the monorail. It would be great with no crowds and if you got a careful cm but that can't be guaranteed.

Besides what was already posted, check out post 8 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You will find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

There is information about all types of transportation there, including pictures.
