I am recovering from an injury and anticipate renting a scooter for an upcoming trip. I have never rented a scooter.

The company that you can rent a scooter from that will drop off with bell services at WDW resorts - can you fold this scooter up and transport in a standard car trunk?

We are planning on doing a few days at WDW, followed by a couple of days at Universal. Can I take the scooter with me as one long rental period? Or do I need to think of two separate rentals, doing a new rental at Universal (I haven't even researched what vendor arrangements Universal has for scooter rentals)?

It depends on which model of scooter you rent. Some can be disassembled to fit in a car trunk, some can't. It also depends on how big the trunk is. Each individual scooter model should have the dimensions listed, both for fully assembled and for how big each individual piece is when you take it apart. If you're renting a car, you can also check on the exact dimensions of the trunk for the car's make and model.

Once you rent the scooter and it's dropped off, it is yours for the whole rental period. You can take it to the Disney parks, to Universal, to Sea World, anywhere you're going. Basically you rent it for X days, they drop it off at your resort, and then they collect it again at the end of the rental period. They don't care where you bring it or what you do with it so long as you follow safety guidelines and return it in the same condition it was in when you got it.

edit: This is why it's more convenient to rent a scooter for a week from an outside company, as opposed to renting by the day at a park. You can rent a scooter for one day at any Disney or Universal park, but you can't get one until you're inside the park, and you can't take it out of the park. So you can't use it at the resort, you can't use it to go through the parking lot, you can't bring it anywhere outside the gates of that park. It's also significantly more expensive to rent for one day at a time, plus you have to get there early because once they've rented out all the available scooters, that's it. AND the park scooters are huge, slow, temperamental four-wheeled beasts that have zero maneuverability and won't fit in half the ride queues. Unless you need a bariatric scooter, you're better off with a three-wheel. It'll be easier to fit it into a trunk, too.

ScooterBug is the only vendor allowed to utilized Bell Services at WDW resorts. I believe they do offer a portable ECV. It breaks down to probably 5 pieces for transport; it doesn’t fold. I suggest you contact to ask about vehicle size. It may depend on the number of passengers as well as any other cargo/luggage you’ll be transporting at the same time.

We have done this several times before with Gold Mobility. We had split stays split stays, we always rent the Victory 10 full size scooter due to the longer battery life and comfort advantage. One of the occasions we stayed 5 days at poly and 4 days a Hard Rock hotel. We used Mears transportation on that occasion to move us, and the scooter to the second resort. It cost around $60. We left the scooter at Hard Rock bell services to pick up the day we left. The second time we rented and SUV, and took the scooter apart and transported it in the back of the SUV. That time we stayed 4 days at FT Wilderness, and 3 days at Cabana Bay. It comes apart and assembles very easily. We have also used UBER MT connect to transport us and scooters which worked very well for a trip to the outlets for shopping. That was very inexpensive.
