My mom just informed me now that she will need a scooter at DL. We leave for our trip on Monday. We won't be in LA until Sept. 16th as we are taking the Wonder down.

I need help! Can they be rented at DL, if so do I need to book ahead of time and how much $? Is it better to book one with an outside company?

I hate last minute things like this! Wish she had told me earlier to look into it as her hip has been bothering her.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including in Post #14 which give DisneyLand information.

I would definitely recommend renting from off-site. DL has only a very limited number of ECVs for rent; an off-site rental guarantees full availability (and usually will be easier to use..

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Is a 3 wheel better than a 4 wheel scooter? Is one easier to use than the other for a newbie?

I found one place that said the batteries last 18 miles, is that good?

I know nothing about scooters!

When DH and I both rent ECV's at Disneyland, the company discreetly asks how large we are. I rent a 3-wheeler but DH needs a 4-wheeler because it's heavier-dooty for his size. A 3-wheeler is much easier to maneuver. The rental companies are very good about dropping off the scooters at the hotel then picking them up later. One of the "perks" of renting off site is that your mom can drive the scooter around Downtown Disney and back and forth from the hotel (assuming the hotel is within walking distance of the parks.)

18 miles is great. If the scooter starts to get sluggish, just plug the charger into an outlet while you eat dinner. Make sure it gets a full charge over night at the hotel.

Thanks, that was helpful.

My mom is going to call Deckert tomorrow and see what they have available for our dates. She should be fine in a 3-wheel as I checked quite a few different models on another site and most are good to 275lbs to 300lbs if I remember correctly.
