Scooter/ EVC Rental

Hello!

We are bringing my mother with us on this vacation and although she is still quite able to get around by foot, she does have some mobility issues and feels that she would be more comfortable having a scooter rental.

I have seen all of these other companies out there and we will have a car rental if picking one up offers up the best deal. My mother thinks renting from anywhere but Disney is a bad idea since they will charge her battery or deal with it if it stops working.

My questions are:

What is the best company to rent from? On or off property?

Do these things often break down or require service int he parks?

What cost should I expect to pay for a 2 week rental?

Should I expect to need one in Universal?

I have used multiple vendors for my MIL and myself over the years. I prefer Walker Mobility. They consistantly offer a good quality scooter with excellent customer service.

Randy's Mobilty is a never again for us. Care Medical Equipment was fine. Buena Vista Scooters was ok too.

Another vote for Walker. I had an issue once and they promptly sent someone to the park to assist me when I panicked and couldn't listen to anything they were trying to tell me on the phone. My ecv charges have never run out on me.

If you go to Post #2 in the disABILITIES FAQ (a link was provided above you you can click on the link in my signature) you will get a lot of answers to this question. We recommend strongly that you rent from an off-site vendor.

Do these things often break down or require service int he parks?

They very rarely will break down, and the batteries are strong enough to easily get a full day's use from one charge. When people have reported having an ECV break down in the parks the vendor has usually been there in less than an hour with a replacement.

Several years ago I had my personal ECV have a flat tire. A manager had the Disney rental people loan (not rent) me a scooter for the rest of my day as well as get mine out to the front of the park.

What cost should I expect to pay for a 2 week rental?

Disney does not provide any reduced prices for long-term rentals, so a 14 day rental from Disney would be $630. Most of the off-site locations will cap their weekly price at $200 and charge a reduced price for subsequent weeks, so an off-site rental should run about $350 (but don't quote me on this). You best bet would be to call each company for a quote.

Should I expect to need one in Universal?

Absolutely! From disabled parking it is well over 1/4 mile to where you can get a wheelchair, and at least 3/4 mile to either of the park entrances. You cannot rent an ECV at Universal outside of the parks.

I was there last week. I rented from scoot a rama and was very happy. They delivered and picked up. very easy to use. much less than at the park. I was using it due to broken ankle and crutches. Tried crutching it first day, but quickly saw scooter made my life easier and families more fun. i wish i would have had it the first day.
