Hey everyone! So my Granny is going to Disney World for the first time in February and will need a scooter from the parks. Just curious about the availability of these. My Mom was wondering if there are plenty available or is it too risky to rely on this and should rent one for the week.

Thanks for any and all info!:wizard:

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

Normally in February there should be availablility at all times during the day. However, we do suggest that you may be better off renting from an off-site vendor; the prices are better, the ECVs are more maneuverable, and they are also available for use at the Resort and DTD.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #2 discusses mobility and lists several recommended vendors.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Also, if she is not used to using one, I would suggest a major grocery store or other store that will provide them at no charge for use in the store. Note that the store ECVs are much more difficult to operate because of the basket in front.

My cousin rents hers from Walker Mobility. They deliver and pick it up at the hotel. That way she would have it 24/7. Remember that if you rent one from the park, you still have to get back to the bus and to your room. She would also have it if you go any where else, like DTD.

I also suggest that you think about renting an ECV for the week. In Feb. we rented 2 units. Another suggested vendor is Randy's Mobility. They will also have you do a little practice with the unit before they leave. It is an excellent suggestion to practice at a store prior to the trip. The biggest problem was learning how to manuever on/off the buses. Another member of the party might want to help Granny by driving the unit onto the bus. Look at the various vendors and the style of EVC they rent. Some have headlights, others do not. Do read some of the other tips on using the EVCs. Example: We put the key on a wrist style key chain. There are some excellent suggestions.

I am sure Granny will enjoy the trip. We were a group of seniors. We take a slow pace. We do not go into the parks from opening to closing. We are returning in Dec.

Thank you so much, everyone, for all your helpful tips. I honestly don't know how anyone goes to Disney without the Dis:goodvibes
