Scooter and a small child?

I am planning on taking a trip to epcot my 3 year old son. I have mild CP that mainly limits my walking distances. As a result when I visit theme parks I use a ECV. I thought about getting a stroller but I don't know if it would provide enough support by taking the weight off of my ankles nor resistance. I know Disney does not allow children on their ECVs. Do they make an ECV for use with a child?

Disney does not allow children to ride with the ECV user. All rental companies usually make you sign something stating that only one person will be allowed to ride the ECV at once.

In general, it is dangerous to ride an ECV with a child on your lap. I have actually been hit by a person on an ECV because the kid accidentally hit the button and the ECV jumped. Plus, it is difficult to hold a child safely and drive and keep an eye on the "road." And if a child falls or jumps off while you are moving it can be deadly.

I am not sure what the solution is for you, but i do know that disney policy is not to allow any children on their scooters, no matter what.

Also, no ECV is made to take on passengers, at least none that I am aware of. they are medical devices made to be used by the person with a disability/need.

I've never seen a scooter with an extra seat for a child - but wouldn't that be a great idea. I do remember seeing a "scooter built for two" in Vegas one year. The people sat one behind each other and the front person controled the scooter

It seems that if they can make kiddy trailers that hook to the back of bicycles, they should be able to make one that hooks to the back of an ECV.

But that would still not help the OP's problem since WDW doesn't allow anything to be pulled, including just someone pulling a wagon. The website specifically says nothing pulled by an ECV. And, even if they did, it would not work in lines because of the narrowness and the turns.

I saw so many people carrying children on their ECVs during our recent trip. It was very scary and I never saw anyone from Disney say anything to anyone. Not saying WDW wasn't enforcing its rule, just that I never saw anyone get spoken to. But it is such a bad idea.

I HAVE seen people spoken to, and I will point them out to CMs if the opportunity presents itself, as I have been hit by someone with a kid on their lap. It's just plain dangerous.

Any time I am in costume at work and I see someone driving with a child in their lap I will intercept them and require them to remove the child. A couple of times I have had people tell me iot was their personal scooter; I would tell them to read the manual and it is a safety hazard. If it is a Disney ECV I will advise them that they are in violation of the written agreement and Security can impound it, and if it is a rental I tell them they are in violation of their rental agreemetn.

And when I am in the parks habing fun I will politely warn people of the hazars; this helps as I am running around on my own scooter.

Although I absoulutely agree with all of the other posters, I have great sympathy for the OP. I find myself in this situation often.

I have a jazzy power chair that I have not been able to use virtually since my son was born 2 1/2 years ago -- because it is just not feasabile when you have a little one. If I am alone, I have to choose between pushing him in a stroller -- or just not going somewhere. I have said for a while now that there should be someone who could adapt mobility devices SAFELY to allow parents to still parent. Honestly, just because someone has a disability doesn't mean they can't parent! (OK -- enough of that rant!)

OP -- I'm guessing you will be going alone to disney? Sorry not to have a solution -- good luck & let us know if you figure something out!
