ScoJo's Running Down a Dream Journal (comments welcome)

AMAZING run Scott! Wow!!!! :cheer2: That is so incredible. I think you were born to run...hmmm...isn't that a song :confused3 . LOL! Yes....you are definitely a fierce runner. So when ya gonna' qualify for Boston? Geeze!

So impressed with that effort. Truly mind-boggling! You really should be so proud of yourself! I found the 10 mile run to be somewhat torturous. Would kill for your ability. But you worked hard to get where you are and I really appreciate the amount of determination and will power that you have put into your training. :thumbsup2 Congratulations Scott!!! Celebrate that victory!

Hey Scott,

What an amazing run! You are doing such a great job! Keep up the good work! :cool1:

Ya know I was thinking...... Since you will be in WDW in January for the marathon, you'll need to do a trip report, right? Well... since you like reality TV, why don't you title your trip report, "The Amazing Race"..... Just a thought. ;)

I hope you have a great week! :sunny:

Hello!

Ok, so I missed a post last week! I forgot to post about my Wednesday run. I went to the flat long run track to do the 4 miles...and decided during the run to scale it back and only do 3 to prevent pushing too hard. I ran very fast...ended up doing the 3 miles in 23:55 for an average of 7:58mpm!!! Never really thought I could break the 8 minute barrier over a run of that distance! So I was very happy but my body was not LOL! Actually it wasn't that bad, but I'm glad I stopped at 3 miles...4 may have just been too much.

Thursday was an off day and I was supposed to do cross training on Friday, but with the concert and the travel associated with it...I just couldn't manage the time to workout. So I skipped it and figured the rest would do me good for Saturday.

Saturday was posted so that catches me up with the journal!

I do have to say that I had a moment of "what the heck am I doing?" while running on Saturday. The thought of covering 26 miles just seemed an impossible task, but then I just somehow kicked back into my groove and finished the run out. When I finished, I felt odd...like I was really zoned out...I don't think it's anything problematic, I just think I was so focused on running that I had to snap back out of it. I'm definitely to the point where I can really just hit a comfortable groove and knock it out....and the PowerBar Gel packs seem to be working fine, they have extra caffeine and they taste like strawberry banana!

Anyway...TV was awesome this week!! (can't always be about running, you know) LOST - OMG holy cow!!! Jack seeing the Red Sox game...Sawyer and Kate (love the 'you taste like strawberries' line)...wow...the show is so incredible. Survivor - ok..i'm pulling for the rollerderby chick cause she trash talks, yul because he's finally showing that he's got game and johnathan because he's not turning out to be too bossy. AR - funniest scenes ever last week!!! When Tom and Jerry (or whatever) were having to row the boat...dude swimming...and then he collapses like a wet fish LOL!! Sooo funny..and I'm loving the fighting between all of the teams..seems like this season is a lot more difficult, with a highter stress level. I think i like the new "marked for elimination" twist too. The Office - sooo funny this week!! LOVED the movie references during the 'death meeting'...that show is so intelligently funny..i just love it.

Anyway...got a tough week ahead....check out this week's schedule (definitely the hardest yet)

Monday - 50 minute run (and it's raining...woooohooo!)
Tuesday - 40 minute XT
Wednesday - 40 minute run
Thursday - 45 minute run (this one's gonna hurt LOL)
Friday - 30 minute XT
Saturday - 12 mile run (wow!!)
Sunday - a day off...go figure!

So that's it...I've planned as best I could with pasta and meats before running days and I'm trying out some energy bars before the runs to see if that helps as well. Here's hoping for a successful week!!

That's all for now...thanks a million for stopping by and all of the support!

Have a great day!

Couldn't agree more, Scott. There better be a trip report from the marathon weekend!! :thumbsup2

Lost - absolutely AWESOME!! I loved how after he told her she tasted like strawberries...she said he tasted like fish cakes. Then he went to say something else to her and said "shortcake..." :rotfl: (which I took as a strawberry shortcake reference :confused3 ). He is just so hysterical.

Also loved The Office. I look forward to these 2 shows so much, it's sad! :teeth:

Good luck with this week's training schedule. Definitely a tough one....2 days of running in a row!! If anyone can do it, YOU CAN! :woohoo:

G'morning!

I completed my 50 minute run last night in the middle of a torrential downpour. Ok ok...it wasn't a downpour but it was raining for pretty much the entire run..not a soaker kind of rain, but somewhere in between a drizzle and a steady rain. Amazingly enough, it was the first time I've had to run in the rain since I started this whole mess...and let me tell ya'...it was kind of fun! It actually made for some great conditions...right around 50 degrees, no wind....kind of relaxing in an odd sort of way.

Anyway, I ended up running for 51:31 (just to finish up at my driveway) and completed 5.6 miles. That's a 9:12 mpm pace. And I hesitate to say this because I do not want to come off the wrong way, but it was the easiest run I've ever had. I never got winded..never felt the least bit of struggle...even made it up the hills with ease. I'm sure it was due to a combination of things including the favorable temperature and the fact that I loaded up on carbs (via some pasta) on Sunday night and again for lunch on Monday. I'm really starting to believe that food is the key to success. I'm gonna have pasta again on Wednesday night so we'll see how it impacts Thursday's difficult run.

I have to say that I'm starting to get anxious about running the race. Its almost time to receive the packet in the mail containing the race program and other information and that signifies how close the race actually is. While I'm nervous about how far 26 miles actually is (I haven't even ran halfway yet!), I'm kind of excited to see what transpires during that race. Will I hit a wall? Will it be as grueling as I think? What will happen at the finish line..will I collapse LOL? How will I feel later on that night? Will I be able to eat the right foods going in to it? Soo many variables....I'm ready to just power thru and have an awesome experience. Anyway...enough babbling...

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi Scott,

Great times on your 10 miler!!! I knew you could do it!!! Way to go!!

Your plan for this week looks good....tough but good. I know you can do it

Keep up the great work!

Have a wonderful day :)

:thumbsup2 Way to go on the Monday run Scott!!!

So this whole running thing is starting to work out for ya eh? ;) I'm continually astounded by your progress and consistency week in and week out!

First of all, let me just say that you have really been doing such an amazing job on your runs recently. And actually, your entire approach to the marathon from the "training to train" phase all the way up to the actual marathon training, you've really done everything right. Healthy eating! Sticking to the training plan! You've just made excellent choices all along and trained in such a smart and deliberate manner. I honestly believe it will carry you through this next phase of long runs and grueling weeks....it's going to be tough....but if anyone is up to the task it's you. I just really admire your determination, Scott. Thanks for always inspiring me to keep going and keep pushing through these difficult runs! :cheer2:

:goodvibes And I cannot wait for that packet to arrive either!!! It will be a bit terrifying to realize that I'm actually going through with this crazy marathon plan LOL. BUT...at the same time...it will be so exciting and motivating during this difficult phase of training. To just see that race within sight....to know that it really is going to happen...that is what all this hard work is about. Sure has been a long journey....but the prize is crossing that finish line and realizing that we've learned a lot about our determination, will power and strength along the way! So yeah.....definitely celebrate when that packet arrives!

Keep up the great work Scott. I'm really proud of you !!!! :teeth:

OK...haven't left you with one of my cheesy quotes now in a long time. So here ya' go....this one is appropriate...an homage to your rainy run :)!

Why Do You Run?
Because you're wondering if your grandchildren will too. Because its raining. Because you can, and others can't. Because its faster than walking. Because that shaky-leg-thing is all about nervous energy. Because you can't fly. Because you can fly. Because your personal best is just that, yours. Because the pain of a blister is nothing compared to the pain of stopping. Because you like the resistance the wind gives you. Because you like the resistance you give the wind. Just Because.

First off, your runs have been fantastic! :cheer2:  :cheer2: Your complete training package is wonderful! You are going to have an awesome run in January. As far as how will you feel after the run - like you are "on top of the world!" The soreness the next day is so worth it and the adrenaline high cannot be beat!

Hey PASTA MAN! Again, an awesome run. I don't find it conceited in any way for you to admit that you had a GREAT run!! Bask in that wonderful feeling!! :thumbsup2

Any chance of an update to your trip report anytime soon? :rolleyes1

Yes...yes...I'll update the trip report again very soon. It's just a matter of sitting down and busting it out...I'm glad you like it!!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday was just a cross training day so I did 40 minutes on the elliptical (4.74 miles) at the fitness center and then struggled thru the arm/ab workout late last night at home. The elliptical was tougher than normal but I think it's because I haven't spent as much time doing it recently....it was still a great super sweaty workout :) I made it thru both cycles of the arm/ab routine, but did have to stop a couple times (stupid scissors) and let me tell you, I sure felt it afterwards LOL. Of course, I'm dumb enough to attempt it again tonight....so we'll see how it goes. I did weigh in last night too...at 195 pounds, but I attribute that to the fact that I had just eaten before working out. I don't really think I've gained that much.

Anyway, tonight I'll do the 40 minute run through the inflatable infested neighborhood. Usually Wednesday runs are supposed to be speedy fast, but I'm gonna back off of that and just go for a normal paced run. I've got way too many miles to run this week and do NOT want to risk any injury on trying to prove to myself how fast I can go. Right now, I have the mentality of just getting thru to the 12 miler this weekend.

In other news....I heard Boone makes an apperance tonight on that show coming on at 9pm...what's the name of it again? crap...keep forgetting it....LOL So, this is the third episode...means three more weeks after this and then we suffer for a couple months. Something is just not right with that scenario.

Anyone seen the show "heroes"?? Is it any good?? I've seen it getting rave reviews..but just haven't checked it out yet.

Anyone follow hockey??? Anyone see who is near the top of ALL standings? Yes! The Thrashers are off to a great start...gonna bring the cup to Atlanta this year!! wooohooo!

Hmmmm....oh well....guess that's it for the good ol' journal today. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Scott,

Hope you had a great run tonight. Good idea...don't push it too fast! Not with the week of training that you are facing. You've been doing so great...no need to push yourself and end up injured!!! Hope you followed your own advice tonight!!! :goodvibes

Congrats on your hockey team! Have fun watching Lost! No clue about Heroes??? Can't start another show...can barely keep up with the few I record now!!! :confused3 All in all have a super night! Get lots of rest and hydrate 'cause you've got ANOTHER RUN tomorrow!!! :cheer2:

Wow! That about sums it up!

I've been reading and reading to catch up and am astonished. Then I went back to the beginning, and it is incredibly AMAZING how far you've come so fast! You have accomplished so much!

Have a great weekend! Don't push too hard - don't want you hurt!

OMG - LOST was GOOD!! I'm almost glad I didn't read your journal before the show came on because it was SHOCKING to see Boone. I loved that part. The show left me a little frustrated last night, like I couldn't figure anything out. :confused3

Great job on the training, Scott. You think there's a way to transfer calories burned to another person somehow? Now THAT would work out for me. I seriously need to come up with a new plan (but I won't get into that on your journal). You're doing awesome, and I'm glad you planned to get out there & run at a normal pace instead of pushing it. I'm curious to see if that actually happened though! :rolleyes1

Have a GREAT one, and thanks as always for your encouragement on my journal.

Good morning!

Thanks SO MUCH to everyone for the support and very kind words....I really appreciate it!

Yesterday was the 4 miler and it went really well. I tried out a new playlist and it really pumped me up about halfway thru...I found myself flying thru part of my course, adrenaline pumping, wishing there was a mosh pit to jump into LOL :hyper: :rockband: :hyper: So I ended up with a pretty quick run...I did 4.62 miles in 41:29, for an 8:59mpm pace. Even got my heart rate up higher than it has been in a while..peaking at 189 and averaging 168. Afterwards, I stretched and then went for the ab/arm routine again. My "core" was still worn out from the night before, so I was only able to complete one circuit...but hey, one is better than nothing, right? Overall, it was a very good night as far as workouts go :)

One sidenote....UM, what the heck happened on Lost? I'm still confused :confused3 !! And besides being confused and trying to sort things out, didn't it seem like the show just kind of ended? So what...we have psychics, islands that communicate with people and polar bears living in the jungle? LMAO LOVE THIS SHOW!! Hopefully things will sort out as it goes along...but something tells me there was a lot to learn from that episode. The preview for next week was awesome!! Can't wait to see the next one ;)

So that's it for now...thanks for reading...thanks for posting...have a great day!

I didn't see your post before I posted...I'm glad I'm not the only one slighty confused!!

Hey Scott,

Another great run! :thumbsup2 If you don't mind me asking... What kind of music do you have on your playlist? That was a great run!

I tried the ab/arms workout and it is indeed tough! I could only do one circuit and I could only hold the plank for 15 seconds. It is a great workout, but one that I will have to ease in to.

Hope you have a great weekend! :sunny: Go Buckeyes! :cheer2:

Pretty quick run??? LOL :rotfl: I'd say so! Wow...way to go Scott! :cheer2:

Glad you found a playlist that really works during the run! I've got so many now depending on the distance/mood. Sounds like your new one really rocks! Grab those DMs and mosh the other runners while you're out there :teeth: . Ok...on second thought..maybe you shouldn't do that. Might get you arrested!!! :confused3

Hope the run went well tonight! I know that the third run of the week can be brutal! Just take it easy tomorrow....simple XT day! Rest up for the big run on Saturday. 12 miles...woo-hoo :woohoo: . Should be interesting :goodvibes . The scary thought of the day....we're still not even half way there in terms of distance!!!!!!! :rolleyes1

Goooooodddddddddmmmmmorrrrrrnnnniiiiigggggggg Disboooaarrdds!!

(shouted in best Robin Williams impersonation ;) ) :)

Breaking News:
This just in from the Federal Department of Calendars, Thursday has been officially renamed to: runsonthisdaystinkday. How appropriate!

So yeah, the Thursday runs are slightly more difficult than any other run throughout the week and last night's was no exception. I had to slow down the pace a little in order to avoid being seriously sore, cramped or injured. My legs felt pretty heavy and I got the feeling during the run that they would have much rather been at home chillin' on the couch with some wine, a movie and great company...but hey....got a marathon to run here so no slacking allowed :)

I powered through and finished the run in 45:13, covering 4.7 miles. That equates to a 9:37mpm pace, which I am not at all disappointed with. I know that going forward, Thursdays aren't just about Survivor on TV, they are about surviving that run!! Total Survivial Thursdays.

The good news is that today, I can tell that I ran due to being a little stiffer than normal...but I'm fine other than that and should be ready for a great 12 miler tomorrow. And yes, thanks Amy for reminding me that it's still not even halfway!! (oh, you need to refill your water 'cause your glass is half empty :rotfl2: ) :p

*moment of uncomfortable silence*

Hmmm...nothing else to really say today! Today calls for a 30 minute cross training session, so I'll head over to the fitness center and hop on the elliptical.

Hope "y'all" have a great day and a great weekend! Thanks to all for the support!! :grouphug:

Thanks for the support and to answer your question, I'm a rocker at heart so I have mostly rock music on there. I run to a variety of groups including but not limited to Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Linkin Park, the Killers, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Hoobastank and Green Day.

If you'd like to know exactly which songs, I'd be glad to share with you!

Have a good one and GO BUCKS!!!

I'd love to know! I've been looking to download some "harder" music to run to, instead of the pop-crap I normally listen to! :rotfl:

If it's easier, feel free to PM me! Thanks!
