I have to pick summer classes to take so that i can graduate from college on time...i HAVE to take a lab science and theres three that i can take, but i dont know the difference between them...i am not a science person at all, what would be the best to take?

Chemistry 1 lecture and lab
General Chemistry lecture and lab
Physical Science lecture and lab

Thanks!!!!

I'm not a science person either (but DH is). My suggestion would be physical science if science isn't your thing...I guess you could "see it" more than you would chemistry. Forgive the awkward wording...told you I stunk at science. Good luck and congrats on graduation.

IMO, physical science would be an easier course than chemistry.

Oldest DS is also not a "science person". He took one of his two required science/lab courses the summer after his sophomore year. And then put off taking the second one. So here he is in his last semester taking biology - with the lecture part of the course being on MWF at 8:00 a.m. OUCH!

I took Chemistry with lab over the summer ONLINE and was fine. I got an A. If I remember correctly, you are local to me. Camden County College has a nice four credit Chem summer online course that includes labs which while a lot of work, wasn't too bad time wise.

Yes, labs were done. Some were flash style with animation, some were go out and do and report, some were differently styled.

I did get a lot out of the course. Iam not a science person and I got an A.

I am currently taking a Human Biology course online and am getting a high B. (of course the course just started though)

one question is, can these credits be transferred to your school? because they might not be able to. i took a physics course over the summer (because i needed it as a prerequisite to a class) and i had to get the ok from the head of the physics department at my school in order to get the credits to transfer. i personally would take the general chemistry, but that's because i'm a science person and i think its a useful course. if you're just looking to get credits take the physical science course (i'm assuming that's like general general science, because it could be totally something different?)

I'm not a science person, but I have taken some college science courses. I would recommend one of the chemistry courses. In my opinion, physical science is the dumps. It's basically physics, with a ton of equations about energy, momentum, velocity, etc. Nothing made sense to me--all of the examples we used were not very "real world"y if that makes any sense. Maybe if you're good at math and word problems you will like it, but I hated it. Chemistry is kind of fun...you get to use bunson burners.

the courses will transfer, i have checked on that..

i hate ALL aspects of science and math..so word problems, equations and bunson burners are not fun to me...
thanks for all the help!

I am a science person (I'm a biologist) and I would say RUN AWAY from chemistry. YUCK! I am not the best math person, so that's why I didn't do well in general chem. Lots of math and equations. The physical science.. hmm.. more math and equations. Oh, yuck. There's no biology class you could take? :teeth:

i took a natural resources course for my non lab..so that appoarently counted as my biology type science--which of course, i didnt konw!

is this a 6,10,12 week summer course? If you are not a strong science person, I do not recommend taking chem in the summer. It's easy to get behind or get lost and confused in the work.

While I prefer chemistry, if you don't really need chem and physical science can replace it, and its a good professor, I'd take physical science over the summer.

But if you really need chem and you are taking it to that you can take Organic Chem, don't take chem over the summer and then orgo the next semester because you need a decent foundation.

Good luck with your decision

Hello. I am a high school chemistry teacher so I guess you can say I am a science person. I teach three levels, AP chem, general chem, and physical science, so I think your choices are similiar, but at the collegiate level. My prediction of your three classes would be:

chem 1 vs general chem
- chem 1 would be a little more advanced, going deeper
into the topics. I'd almost assume chem 1 is chemistry for
science majors and general chem would be for non
science majors. ( I could be wrong)

Physical Science
- In high school we "skim the surface" of basic physics
and basic chemistry.I'd assume a college course labeled
this would be more of a survey than anything in depth.

I'm not sure if this helps but thought I"d chime in anyways.

Thanks everyone! i think im bascially going to be choosing between gen chem and physical science

it is a 6 week summer course--i have to take it during the summer in order to graduate college next may--this is the only science i need, so i dont really need a strong foundation..

thanks!

What are you majoring in? I only ask because I was told at an information meeting when I was looking into nursing at a community college that while Chem for Health Sciences was all you needed for the ADN from that school, if you wanted to eventually get your BSN you would need Chem 101.

Just a thought to talk to your guidance person and find out what fits best into your program and future goals.

im an early childhood education major--this is just a gened requirment which is why i have these 3 choices
