Anyone ever have this kind of pain? I'm not 100% sure this is what I'm experiecing since I haven't been to the doctors yet, but everyone that I've told about it has said that it sounds just like sciatic nerve pain.

OMG it hurts. It's basically all right on top of my right butt cheek. It doesn't travel down my leg or anything but will stay in one spot. I know I'm SEVERELY overweight (over 100 lbs if not more) my job requires me to sit for 3 hours at a time (I drive school bus), so I'm sure those two things play against me.

Any suggestions on what to do about the pain?

I have had pain like that since I was pregnant w/ my first daughter--over 14 years now-Ouch- I know how you feel.

I am able to take ibuprofen that helps most of the time. On really bad days, I have lidoderm patches that I put on my hip (prescription). Another thing, that helps is my bed positioning. I sleep on my side, almost to my stomach, and bend my top leg over a body pillow--Seems to help. Also DH helps massage the area a bit. After 14 years, he finally knows the spot- which I cannot reach.

Motrin and ice. This is what my chiropractor told me to do several years ago and it really helps. The ice helps to shrink the nerves that are inflamed. Hope you feel better. Oh, I forgot back stretches, lay on your back and bring one leg at a time up to your chest and hold for 10-15 seconds and then do both at the same time, do these about 8-10 times each. These are from a sheet that my doctor gave me.

Ice 10 mins on and ten off, if usung one of those gel ice packs don't forget to wrap a small dish towel or something around it.

That sounds like it.

I have it really bad. I notice it hurts more. When I stand alot either barefoot or in none sturdy shoes. Also if I'm sitting on a hard chair or on the floor. Ice and Motrine help alot.

I've had this exact thing for the past month. Top of the left butt cheek, annoyingly conplaintive, persistent and achy, but mine sometimes travels down my leg. I've been forty pounts overweight for the last year and have a had a desk job for the last two and half (the former condition the result of the latter, I'm guessing), so I definitely tend to think those are the causes. I am otherwise active, though.

I went to a local clinic and the doc put me on come damn anti-inflammatory or other, and it worked. But he only gave me two weeks. Now I'm using Celebrex-es that my mother-in-law had left over, and those work even better. In the meantime I'm trying to slim down and move around more (nothing too strenuous).

N.B. I'm up here and Canada and shoveling out the MASSIVE snowfall last year caused me to have serious back pain at that time. I'm not looking forward to that this season and the wife already demanded that we buy a snow blower. (Goodbye carbon-footprint!)

I'm not overweight at all, but I still have those occassional pains. It started when I was pregnant, and then every once in a while, it flares up.

Normally when I sit in a certain position for a long time. Like right now, I'm in my office chair sitting indian style. If I sit too long, I'll feel it when I get up. Searing, stabbing pain, almost like my hip/leg locks up (or maybe that's me locking it up knowing that moving it will hurt like the dickens).

I don't do anything for it (other than not sit like this too long) because my episodes don't last too long.

Maybe you could stand up and stretch a bit while on the school bus. Like once you drop all the kids off at school?

Have it checked out by a specialist (I go to a pain dr). I thought the pain I was having was sciatica and I put up with it for years before it got too bad to put up with. Turns out it's problems with my SI joint and my facet joint. There are procedures that can help that pain and I'm feeling much better now.

I would try a (good) Chiropractor, works for me.
