Sci-Fi reservations

My husband and I recently decided we want to take our son to experience the Sci Fi theater for lunch/dinner and as I'm looking for reservations absolutely nothing shows up for our week stay. Obviously I expected this since our 180 day window has passed, but I noticed that if I change the party size to 2, several dinner times show up. Is this because the restaurant really has just 2-top seating or is it an odd glitch?

In the meantime, I have signed up for a reservation finder in hopes that we can get one for our trip in December! Just curious why they can't accommodate 3 people.

They can accommodate 3 (I've been there as part of a party of 3), but 2 people can be easier at Sci Fi, as each car seat holds 2 people. So a car that has 2 seats can hold 4 people. A party of 3 needs a whole car, while a party of 2 needs only half a car. One car can accommodate 2 separate parties of 2. So that can allow more availability for parties of 2.

Are you familiar with the layout of the tables/cars at Sci-Fi? Most of the accommodations for seating are "cars" with a front & back seat which can each seat 2 people. Depending on party sizes, a party of 2 might be seated in one section of the car (front seat) while another party of two might be seated in the back seat.
With a party of 3 the restaurant is prevented from seating another couple so the ADRs for that size party are going to be limited. Doesn't mean you won't find something, you should keep trying. Good luck

Ate there tonight with 3.

Most cars have 3 rows, some have 2 rows.

There are also a few fake cars for bigger groups and in the back picnic tables for walkups.

They will set aside 2 per bench. They will put multiple groups in a car together to fill.

Keep trying, I just got mine with 3 about 3 weeks ago, then changed the day about a week ago.

Try searching for a party of 4. You won't be charged a no show fee for the missing person and since the seating configuration is weird here you might have better luck with an even numbered party.

We almost always do a walkup for Sci-Fi and ask for a "saucer". It's the round umbrella tables in the back.

We have done that too but yesterday they were turning away walk ups.

BTW, we dined there late April/early May this year and the burger I had was probably the best burger I've had on property--I ordered medium rare. Good fries & onion rings, and milkshakes too!

Two people are easier to seat because they can be hitchhikers and sit in the back row of cars with parties of three and four taking the front half of the car.

BEST milkshakes, I love the Orbiting Oreo (alcoholic milkshake).

I just booked lunch for a party of three at Sci Fi for the last week in August...but only after waiting for a week with a reservation finder request on Touring Plans. I wanted a Sunday or Monday lunch or early dinner, and NOTHING was available that week for my size party. Touring Plans res finder worked great!

Don't forget to check the week that you are going. Things often open up as people cancel to avoid the charge.
