We have ADR's for Sci Fi in September (free dining :thumbsup2 ) and it's our first time at this restaurant.

First of all, is there other seating besides the cars? My kids are 7 and 5 and need help sometimes at dinner.

Also, this is a really stupid question, but I am a scaredy cat when it comes to movies, I can't even watch scary movie commercials  and of course my kids have never seen anything remotely scary. I know the movies are cheesy horror movies, but do they show anything that might scare a 5 and 7 year old? (Or their wimpy mom? :teeth: ) Thanks!!

When we were there in Feb. I only saw the cars, some fit 4 2in Front 2 in back and some that fit 6. Its was kinda dark in there so, maybe there were other tables but I didn't see any. As far as the movies, they were all black and white, old movies didn't scare my kids but may be alittle frightening for younger ones.

They also have a few picnic-like tables along the back wall and a few "car" tables in the middle of the room that have car fronts and backs but regular tables running lenghth-wise in between. Instead of sitting facing forward like in a car, you sit in regular chairs sideways to the screen...does that make sense?

Mrs. Toad, Yes, that makes sense. :) Thanks!

Anyone ever eat here with young kids? Is it too scary?

They do have other seating besides the cars. The cars are cool but I know there's at least one that has a table instead of the rows of seats. And there are the picnic tables in the back (and I think front). I would go over there the day of your reservation and let them know that you have concerns about the seating and they'll be able to help you out.

As far as the movies are concerned, I outright laugh at the trailers. If you can handle "Attack of the 60 Foot Tall Woman", you'll be fine. They REALLY are cheesy. They do have some trailers with giant grasshoppers but it's so fake, it's hilarious. When I go there, I keep wondering what the heck filmmakers were thinking about in the 50s and early 60s. The best parts, though, are the "enticements" to visit the snack bar at the drive in. Totally funny.

The clips are not scary, just cheesy. Besides that, there is so many other things to look at etc., I don't believe anyone really even watches that intently. When sitting in the cars, you could put an adult with a child in each seat, remember to get the milkshakes!! :sunny:

Thanks disnut8! Those movies sound fine. :) We all should all be ok. By the way, I see you're in Braselton, we're in Gainesville! Thanks again. :goodvibes

As already mentioned, the clips are not at all scary. They really are quite funny. The accessible tables are regular tables and chairs, but they do face sideways, where the car tables face forward. It's kind of a pain to turn to your right during the whole meal to see the clips. These tables are for guests with mobility issues who may have trouble sliding into the car seats, but they will seat you in one if you ask. The other option is the picnic tables in the back which do not have backrests. I think those seats must be rather uncomfortable. My suggestion is to go with the regular car seats, since that's the best experience. If you have two adults in your party, just have each kid sit with one adult. If there's only one adult, I would just sit the kids in the front seat, and sit right behind them. You can always get up to help the kids if they need you. The screen is high up and you won't bother anyone. It's a fun atmosphere, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

One thing you do need to know-the clips are on a continuous loop so the CMs know them off by heart. There is one part when the on-screen character screams-you know, one of those blood-curdling ones- and all the CMs join in-so if your kids are likely to get spooked by that you need to warn them in advance or rethink!

We've eaten at the Sci-Fi several times. My sons almost 4 and 6 loved it just because they were sitting in cars to eat. The payed more attention to their food than the movies. We went again Nov. 05 and the boys (3) 6, 7 and 10 still enjoyed this restaurant.

While the movies are campy and not that scary to my DD (11), I will tell you about one of the movies. It's about man who kept growing and the doctors were going to give him a shot. It is an oversized shot and three of them are trying to stick him in the leg. The giant man takes the shot and throws it down, and it lands in one of the doctor's chests. It shows him on the ground with the giant shot stuck through him. Most are harmless, but I could see where that one might scare a little kid if he were watching. Some others also have aliens and might be scary as well.

My dd8 was very uncomfortable with the movies. Yes, they are all b movies from the old balck and white days, but there is plenty of screaming, and people running terrified away from some monster or another. The monsters are not really scary, but dd doesn't like watching people being scared, if that makes sense. I mean, if people were screaming about nothing, she would still be scared because the people are scared. In any case, most kids are not that sensitive, and she still ate, I just saw that she was uncomfortable, and often turned her head away from the screen.

She also doesn't like it when Squidward gets angry with Spongebob, either, so she is very sensitive.
