We were there last week, the first time for my 6 year old ds. He was telling me last night how scary they were. I feel bad, I didn't think he was even paying that much attention to them. :sad1:

They're more camp than scary. A sensitive kid may find them scary as he won't get the absurdities. Most guests don't find them scary at all.

I'd definitely call him sensitive, since we don't typically let him watch anything remotely scary. Our fault, but just something for people with young kids to think about.

We didn't have any small kids. Did not think it was scary, but definitely dumb! We were disappointed in the atmosphere. Food was ok, but we haven't been back. We love 50's so we just keep going there.

My DD10 has always been VERY sensitive to anything you could even remotely think of as scary so we've skipped Sci-Fi for years. Now that I see she's able to watch movies like Harry Potter I figure she can handle Sci-Fi.

Your warning is a good one. I don't think a lot of parents consider what images their young kids, especially sensitive ones, can tollerate when booking ADRs. It's at least good for parents to be aware and make informed decisions.

that's why we skipped it last trip......i was worried about my 3 year old! this trip she will be 5...so we are going to try sci-fi.....so many people take videos at disney...i think i might look on youtube and see if anyone posted any of the clips? it would be nice to show her beforehand....??

This is spot on~ as an older child or adult can see the "humor" in the clips, the younger child may take them at face value and I can see how they could frighten a child.

At Sci-Fi, I am always scared of the movie poster "Teenagers From Outer Space";)...as if teenagers from Earth aren't scary enough. Lol. :goodvibes

My son was about 7 and we had to ask our server for our food to go. He didnt like how dark or loud it was more than the movies itself. When he was 12 we went back because he wanted to try the ribs. He was fine this time but I always give anyone who asks about SCI-Fi the heads up because it may not be for everyone.

This has me worried for our trip. I am torn between whether my 4 and 2 year old will love it or be terrified. They are not especially sensitive, but with kids that age you just never know.

It is strange what children find scary. My younger son used to cry every time his brother watched the cartoon "Iron giant". We couldn't figure out why until we realized he was scared of the giant. He was around 18 months. By the time he was 2 or 3, him and his brother's favourite movie was Jurassic Park. Go figure! :confused3

Why dont you try looking for a vid on youtube. maybe someone has taken a vid of the clip and posted it? if your kids arent sensitive, then i wouldnt worry to be honest. But its best to check it out to be sure.

Every now and then I see a post from someone with a child who got scared at Sci Fi. My DD never had a problem with it, and we've gone every couple of years since she was in a high chair. My niece would've been scared silly though, even at age 8 or 9. I think it depends on the child. :goodvibes

I the op is also trying to make another point...he wasn't afraid at the time. Proving that kids, even when seemingly not paying attention in good or bad situations, are internalizing everything they see or hear.
Afterwards, he is saying how scary the images were/are...probably getting visuals or flashbacks out of context or without the safety of his parents' proximity are giving him nightmares or whatever.
food for thought!

We took my daughter at 6 and she was still scared of even Disney movies at that age but the clips didn't phase her at all. The only one that bothered her at all was there is one scene with a large syringe but we just told her it was fake and it was gone very quickly. We had prepared her before we even went that there were pretend scary movies and just reminded her as we went in that even if they looked scary they were totally pretend. We saw WAY WAY WAY more scared kids at rain forest cafe to be honest.

This is a great point. This is exactly why we aren't eating there this trip. DD is 3 and overly sensitive to things she doesn't quite understand but can be scary, etc. She was crying at WALL-E the other day because Eve was being taken away in the spaceship. She said the movie was so sad. She's also been known to cry at Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Its good to know that a place like this could be scary to young children. Thanks, OP!
