Sci-fi Drive-in???

We have eaten here at least once for 14 years now, although its a tradition, we really love the burgers and milkshakes.

We usually eat there once or twice a trip. The burgers are the best thing on the menu. don't get too adventurous. We usually have lunch as the lunch menu is a bit better than the dinner menu and if you eat between 2p-4p the service is better because it's not as busy. (late lunch/early dinner) It's really the atmosphere of the place over the food. We've certainly had better meals at other places, but it's a fun place to eat and the food is comparable to say Applebees or Fridays.

If you like "gourmet" food, then you'll be disappointed. If you like "diner-type" hamburgers, you'll enjoy the luncheon menu. Both my DH and I aren't into "gourmet" food. We LOVE Sci-Fi!

Personally, we feel that SCi-Fi is the best restaurant at DHS. :thumbsup2

Enjoy your "magical" vacation.

Have to agree with quite a few other posters. Lunch is fine and the atmosphere is something great if you've never been too before. But supper menu isn't anything great. It gets so busy that the service just seems to be lacking in alot of cases. It's deffinately worth trying once to form your own opinion....especially on the DDP. Otherwise I would'nt ever do it again.

I've always wanted to try Sci-Fi, but have never quite had time to fit it into our schedule. This time I'm determined to visit! :)

We'll probably go for lunch, but might just order drinks, shakes and desserts. ;)

We went to the Sci Fi for dinner, and we loved it - it was so fun, and we thought the food was yummy.

The cheesecake was the best, even though I was too full to eat all of it :goodvibes

Whew! A lot of mixed reviews here. We have early dinner reservations on the dining plan - 4:10pm. As I said before, my wife's co-worker gave it a thumbs up so we booked it. We may see if they have any lunch slots open. If not, oh well. Thanks for all the information. If nothing else comes of this meal, our kids should enjoy the atmosphere.

Definitely a must for us. DS9 and DS5 love SciFi. You can't go wrong with the Angus burger and the milkshakes are wonderful. The atmosphere is fantastic - the kids get such a kick out of watching the movie clips and eating in the cars.

We thought the food was terrible. Sorry. We are pretty easy to please but we couldn't even eat our ribs. We went for dinner...friends of ours go every trip and recommended it especially the burgars. We had planned on ordering them but they were not on the dinner menu. Found out after we ate that you can ask for them. The milkshakes were great though.

:rolleyes1 :happytv:
We are headed to the World in March with reservations at the Sci-Fi Drive-In while in the Hollywood Studios. I read in an unofficail guide the other day that the food there was not all that great.

Can anybody that has been give an honest review? My wife's co-worker, who goes 2x a year, said the kids would love it. Any thoughts?

We ate at the Scifi Dine in Theater in Spetember 07'

We enjoyed it....we had dinner there but I would recommend going for lunch.

I had butcher steak....seasoned well and cooked to my liking. The milkshakes are really good. The atmosphere is pleasing for familes with young children.
We enjoyed all the old B Scifi Movie Clips from the 50s..... I have seen almost all of the movies on TV as a kid:happytv: You have to just stop and look around....you really feel as though you are in a drive in movie theater......Ummmmm not that I am old enough to have ever been to one:rolleyes1

We have also put this on our MUST do again for our September 08' trip.

I hope this help.:wizard:

We'll (me, dh, and our two ds') will be heading to WDW for the first time in May. Sci Fi and Coral Reef are dh's only two must-do restaurants (the rest are on me to decide and plan). We love old Sci Fi movies (think bad ones--MST 3000 bad, lol). And our dining tastes fall all over the place; the size of my tummy can attest to that. :rotfl:

Honestly, I'm not letting the negative reviews deter me from this restaurant. We've got to experience it for ourselves. We are doing lunch there and plan to order burgers ... just because I think they fit the theme of being all-American, kwim?

(Now, if you want a bad review, my dh and I went to Paris back in 1999 and ate at a restaurant outside of Versailles. Don't ask me why we decided to order burgers, but we did. And they were raw! :scared: Literally raw!)

If you like MSt3000 you will like the SciFi!

Ok my thoughts on the dining, if anyone cares to hear it.LOL
You are going to get mixed reveiws on anything you ask about the restaurants. I loved Primetime, thought the food was great, yet ppl have told me they would never eat there again.
I myself have made ressies for Sci-Fi for lunch. We have never been there and would love to try it.
I think it all depends on the day, the waiters/waitresses, and the cook on that day.
Try it, the worse is you hate it and will never go back.
******** MY WISE WORDS OF THE DAY ******* lmao

DH loves their burgers.
I love the onion rings and I'm hoping I can still get a glowtini for lunch.

The kids like the fries and adore the atmosphere.

I've been asked by my family to make another ADR to Sci-Fi Diner for our Sept. 08 trip. We give it a :thumbsup2:

I am sure that your kids will love it....but I wouldn't expect a ton from the food. We went last year and I was really excited...we had dinner reservations and just were sooo disappointed in the food. It was bad enough to ruin the rest of the experience. Well, after speaking with people more in depth and these boards, it appears that the problems is that dinner has the worst food. Best to do Burgers and shakes for lunch. Supposedly you can do this for dinner to, but it won't be on the menu, you have to ask for it.

The first two times we ate there, the food was delicious and we had great fun. The third time, the food was mediocre, but we still had fun. The last time we ate there, we all hated the food. It really was the worst meal of our trip. DH's burger was dry, the ceasar salad I got had minimal dressing and croutons, the onion rings were scarce and super greasy, the kids hated the "healthier" kids' meals, etc. We were just let down from our previous visits. They used to have a flat iron steak sandwich that was delicious.

Each time, however, we've had great servers and the kids have had fun. For our anniversary one year, we even got a certificate, dessert, and were serenaded by the servers.

Go for the atmosphere, just not the food.

I think it's a really fun place to eat. We always just get burgers and milkshakes and everyone enjoys them!

Food is subjective, service is situational, and expectations vary widely = mixed reviews. Only done SciFi for lunch, cannot comment on dinner menu. We have always done the "safe" options: burgers, chicken sandwiches, --things it's harder to mess up. That said how do you WOW with a cheeseburger, make it worth the $12? SciFi is one of those places that is worth it for the 1) atmosphere and experience and 2) chance to sit, hopefully with good service, relax during a quiet meal rather than CS; and 3) the food. FWIW.

TRY IT!!! We have been there at least once on every single trip. That being said, I am going to agree with a lot of the other posters: stick with Cheeseburgers, the Reuben, Onion Rings, Milkshakes. This type of food is perfect for the atmosphere too. Some of the servers are even on rollerskates! One word of caution...stay away from the ribs. Oh and the other posters saying that the onion ring portions are small, something must have changed since we were there in December. There are 5 of us and we can share one order and be happy. (the boys are 16, 15, and 12).

We love it. This is one of those things that you read what other people say and make your own decision. If you end up not liking it, you know not to go back but you have tried it. If you like it, double bonus!!
