Sci-Fi - Do they seat you with others?

i know the tables are set up like cars? How many people sit in each? And do they seat you with other families? My husband would not be comfortable with that so I am just wondering. We are a party of 4.

My family is also a party of four. We went to the Sci-Fi last September with our boys. The cars have 3 "seats." My husband and one son sat in the front seat. My youngest and I sat in the middle seat. After we were there a little while, they sat another couple in the back seat. I didn't think that it was a big deal. I was more worried that they would be bothered with our boys while they were eating. You are not eating directly beside them, but they are close. I hope this helps you make your decision. We are going back again this year!

we were a party of 2 that sat behind a party of 3. my girlfriend and i felt VERY uncomfortable when we first sat down. the father for the small family infront of us, turned around - smiled - and said, "listen, no funny business or i'm turning us around and bringing us back home"

it was a good ice breaker! for what could have been a very uncomfortable dinner!

if you sit in one of the cars more than likely you are going to be seated with others. it is not a big deal and my DH is the most shy person I have ever met and it does not bother him at all. Just go and have a good time you are on vacation, tell your DH to just go with the flow, you are in DW and around 1000's of people :0)
It is a very fun place and everyone should try it at least once.

You will probably get sat with a party of 2 because most of the cars are seating for 6 (3 rows) But if you're willing to wait - or just lucky - there are a few 4 seat cars (just 2 rows, a "front" and "back"seat like a regular car.) We sat in the back seat of one of those in Jan 2010...but we were "hitchhikers" in that car (young couple in the front seat) We though it was kind of funny that they sat us there - park was mostly empty, and so was the restaurant. Think there was maybe 5 or 6 parties total in Sci Fi when we were there in January, so we were surprised they didn't seat us at our own car but I suppose it's easier to serve cars filled at the same time.

Each car table seats 6 people. We went twice in 2008, once as a party of four and once as a party of two. Both times we had others seated in the car with us. It wasn't a bother at all - apart from they were in the pictures we had taken by our server!!!

You'll be seated with others. But it's not a big deal. Since you're not seated facing each other, the most that will probably happen is a quick hello or something along those lines.

Or you could use it as an opportunity to try a little acting, and pretend that you're criminally insane. Or keep making rude noises. That might solve the problem.

My husband and I did not enjoy our dinner at all here because we were sat with another family. The little girl in front of us kept turning around asking us questions, which didn't really bother my DH and I, but apparently annoyed her parents who in turn gave us the evil eye a few times...I def. won't eat there again.

We've eaten here many times. If we have been a party of 4, we have always been seated in the front 2 seats with "hitchhikers" seated in seat 3. If we have been a party of 2, we've been seated as the "hitchhikers" behind other people.

I hate sitting behind strangers. We once did it and I had a woman with long hair in front of me who kept playing with her hair. I kept imaging it falling into my food since her hair was above our eating area. I won't eat here as a party of 2 anymore. I don't care if strangers sit behind me (I don't play with my hair) but I don't want to sit behind them.

I am not very comfortable at all in group seating situations (like at the German buffet) and I love the Sci Fi. You aren't sitting right with the other people, they'll either be in front of you or behind you.

I've never had to share a car with who was crazy, loud or obnoxious in any way. I'm sure that happens though and if it does, I'd just request to be moved but that's just me. Everyone I've ever sat with has been quiet and respectful. Most people are usually too busy watching the movie screen to become too awkward anyway.

Sci Fi is one of my favorite on-site places to eat. The food is average but the atmosphere can't be beat.

One note to parents though: it is dark and loud there and although anyone over the age of 6 will find the old classic movie monsters hilariously cheesy, very little kids might actually think they're a bit scary.

I think you should give the place another shot. Those people were clearly insane and definitely not the norm. I mean really, who gets mad at someone because THEIR kid talks to them?! Crazy people, that's who.

You can request to be in the front.

Like others have said, it really is no big deal to be seated with another group at Sci Fi. We were a party of 5 so we had our own car (although our back seat was empty the entire meal) but it truly took effort to talk to my DH who was sitting right behind me.

We are a family of five, and the last time we were at Sci-Fi we were seated in the two front rows of the car. Our "hitchhikers" joined us about 10 minutes later, and that was fine. Much different than at Biergarten, for example, because everyone is facing forward in the cars.

The only thing that was less-than-great about the seating was that they put the five of us in just two rows. Granted, our youngest was a toddler at the time, but it was a tight squeeze and would have been nice for my husband to have that back row so that we all had a little more space. We did ask to have the whole car, but they would not let us because our youngest was under three. Not sure if that is the rule or the exception.

So, if we are a party of 3, how will they seat us? Will one person have a whole seat to themself or will they squeeze them with a stranger? Or, do all three of us sit together? :confused3

if you really want to eat there but don't want to sit with others, you can ask for the cars with just two seats...don't know how many of the cars are like that, but it is possible to get seated there & not have to sit with anyone else.

And I agree, if you get obnoxious people as seat mates, it can wreck the occasion.

Wow, I've eaten there twice as a party of 3 and neither time had hitchhikers. And it was busy when we were there. Big line outside and every car occupied inside.

We've had hitchikers a few times and seriously, if I hadn't saw them being seated, I wouldn't even have known they were there.

For the person with a party of 3, no they will not sit one of your family members in the same seat with another family. You will be given 2 seats for your group of 3 and most likely a group of 2 will be in the other seat.

We had a party of 11 in November and had 2 cars side by side.

We ate at Sci-Fi for my birthday back in December and ended up with a four-person, two-row car. We had a couple behind us, but it was never really awkward or uncomfortable - a lot had to do with timing, since they weren't seated until about halfway through our meal.

Here's a pic:

Hi! Any thoughts on a party of 7? How the seating will be arranged? Maybe not from personal exp. but possible observations. We will be a party of 5 ad., a 7yr and a 1yr in a high chair? What are the chances we will be put in a car? Or will we be seated at a reg. table because of the high chair? We have been before, so not a big deal. Just have not been as such a large party....
