Sci Fi diner question

We've never eaten there but I have a question based on the pictures I've seen. It looks like if you are a group of four (or three), you all sit facing the same direction and in different "rows". So if you want to visit with a family member over a meal, then you pretty much can only converse with the person sitting next to you....is this the case?

The atmosphere looks very cool, but for me the biggest part of a TS meal is to sit relax and visit. Does anyone else feel this way? Or perhaps I'm not up to speed on how the tables are designed.

You're correct on the way the majority of tables are configured. My dd and her friend usually sit in front of us and we don't really have any trouble chatting. It is pretty loud in there so having a quiet conversation is difficult.

There are some round tables toward the back that you could request but we think sitting in the cars is part of the fun.

Yes, you are correct as far as the seating arrangements in the cars. You can still turn around and chit-chat with your family or friends, but it is a bit awkward. However, I think most families enjoy the unique experience so much that they really don't mind skipping conversation as they are having too much fun watching the old sci-fi movie clips, ads, etc. Plus the overall atmosphere looks so authentic, like you are really outside under a star-lit sky at an old drive-in.

We are a family of three; DD7, me and DH. So, someone in our party would have to sit by themselves. I know, I wouldn't care to do it, but perhaps DH or DD would see nothing uncomfortable with that.

We've loved Prime Time, so maybe we'll stick to that, but the cars look adorable.

Just my two cents: I think the cars are totally worth it because they are different - it's not just a regular table. Many moons ago, we were seated at one of the picnic tables in the back of the restaurant and it just wasn't the same.
