Sci-Fi Dine In Ticked me Off!!!!

What is the "free dining period" all about?

In Part of Aug and all of Sept (for 2006 and 2005), Disney has put out a special (usually a 3 or 4 letter code that you give to CRO when you call) where when you book a full price package which would be a hotel room and at least a one day park ticket, they will give you the DDP for free. It was started to try to increase attendance during this time as this is peak hurrican season in FL (maybe elsewhere too?). Anyway, we went in Aug 06 and got the free DDP. Appearantly Disney sold more of these free packages then it should've because many people (saw this firsthand) were upset because there wasn't any where for them to use their TS credits if they hadn't already made ADR's. We were at POP, and they set up a special counter at Dinner time where if you used a TS credit there (the meal was slightly better than a typical CS credit), you could also get a lanyard w/ 2 pins (pre-packaged) or a voucher for 2 future snacks for free. You have always been able to use a TS credit at any time for a CS meal. Why you would want to is beyond me though. But you can't upgrade CS credits to TS credits. CM was either confused or misinformed. HTH. :goodvibes

Possibly the CM was reffering to trading two TS for one Signature service and they mispoke :(. Unfortunate, but at least you had an OK experience at Sci Fi, i've never heard anything positive about it til your post :P.

I personally think the CMs do a wonderful job providing information. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen guests misunderstand what CMs (and folks here on the DIS, for that matter) have explained perfectly well. I know some folks won't want to read this, but sometimes guests just hear what they want to hear, believe what they want to believe, without regard to the reality of the situation.

Regarding CMs knowing more than us -- no way. We spend our leisure time studying, learning, fixating on this place. For mos of the CMs, it's just a job. If you ask the CM at Le Cellier about Le Cellier's policy, that's one thing, but I see folks asking reservations CMs intensely detailed questions about specific restaurant policy, or asking hotel front desk clerks intensely detailed questions about ride operations. It's mind-blowing, sometimes. The CMs do the best they can, I believe. If they make an error, I believe, it is in not saying, "I don't know," as often as they should. I think the expectation that all 50,000 WDW employees know what each and every other of the 50,000 employees know is insanity.
