DBF took me to eat here last weekend when we were attending MGM. The prices are cheaper than most sit downs but still pricey for what you get. If you remember the era of drive in movies or you are a total sci fi geek its worth eating at just once. The atmosphere is uber cute.

I can think of plenty of better places to eat on Disney Property. The menu is very basic with sandwiches and salad type choices. Not that much different from the counter service places but definately more expensive. My chicken cesar salad was $12 and his burger was $10.

We ordered the pirate punch which is just a pathetic gimic with a basic childs cup and a glowy thing cliped to the straw. Being huge pirate freaks we were hoping for something a bit nicer @ $5.99. I did see many small kids highly entertained with the glow thing though. So if you have a small one it may be worth the price to keep them quiet.

Also this is not the place to take a big party or if you want to eat face to face and converse.

Thanks for the review. I agree w your opinion, BTW, with one small addition. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOO dark in that place, I could hardly see the menu, or the food :sad2:

I'm sorry the Sci Fi wasn't for you. That's the great thing about Disney, there are so many places to try.

I like the Sci Fi for lunch. It's a great way to take a break from the crowds and sun.

I really enjoyed the Rueben and onion rings I had on my last trip.

Our family has dined there twice, both for lunch, the second time we sat in a car, our 2 children ( 2 & 6 ) sat in the front seat and us in the back. If you want a sandwich or a burger then the food is okay, the 50's drive in atmosphere made it worth it. We will be eating there again this summer.

I totally agree about it being a bit too dark. I know it was part of the atmosphere but it made reading the menu hard. I think perhaps offering flash lights to patrons with dark lighting issues for menu reading might help there. At least the noise level was perfect. Not too loud with the little car side sound speakers. Just like at the movies.

we love sci-fi - nice and dark, don't have to talk, just staring zombie-like at the trailers - all the while chowing down on burgers, fries and shakes - sorry it wasn't for you

Can you easily sit with a group of 8? Or, is it better to split up in two groups of 4?

We've gone there for lunch on each of our last four trips. I guess you could say it's become a tradition, huh? We really like their burger and shakes. This last time, this past December, there were 14 of us, and I believe we were in four close-to-each-other cars. Fun times, good memories!

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the glowing pirate punch thingy would you? Ever since seeing it on the menu I've been curious. We've gotten the souvenir cups with glow cubes before and my kids have used the cups for a long time after we got home. They were nice sturdy souvenir cups. Are the new ones not like that? What a bummer if they're disposable cheap cups.

Thanks for the review. In all our trips to Disney we have not eaten here. We wanted to give it a try this trip. I have really been curious about the seating arrangment. We will have 2 adults and 2 children (one child will need a high chair) Is there room for the highchair? How many people sit in one car? :confused3 Do you dine with others like in the Biergarten in Germany? Thanks for the info!:)

Thanx for the review ~ we've eaten there in the past but only for lunch. Not on our list for places to eat at future trips.

The highchair will go on the end of one of the tables. You do dine with other people kind of sort of. Not really since you do not face each other or sit next to each other. It is kind of hard to hold a conversation with them. I wish the picture DF took was better than it was so I could show you.

It is just a really odd set up.

We went to Sci Fi Dine In on a Sunday evening in April. We loved it. We are 2 adults/2 cihldren and we were pretty much self-contained within our own "car". The restaurant was not full when we were there -- so that may have given us an advantage of more space between people.

We were on the DDP and loved the food. Actually TOO MUCH food -- but we were able to take most of it back to the resort with us. The BLT soup is so, so good!!! I wish I had the recipe -- in fact, we asked if we could get it and the car-hop said she had been trying to get it too. She mentioned that Wal-mart (at least in Orlando) has a tomato-basil soup in the deli that was somewhat close to the Sci Fi version .....

Anyhoo, the BLT soup, onion rings and shakes were divine!!! The sandwiches and desserts were good too -- but we ended up saving them for the next day.

If you are on the DDP, I think it is a fun place to go. If you are paying OOP and are on a budget -- then I agree that it is a bit pricey for what it is.

As a sideline -- we saw Disney Channel's Corbin Bleu dining there the night we were there! After he left, the car-hop said that they often get stars dining there Perfect for them -- dark and quiet. Usually they go unnoticed -- which is what they want.

My family and I have eaten at Sci-Fi several times and always found that the food was ok. So, the past couple of times we've gone we have just done sundaes or malts. (Both very good!) It's kind of our afternoon treat. That way, we don't have to have an expensive meal, yet we still get to go there and take in the atmosphere.

Just a thought. :)

I love that idea. You get the fun with just a special treat. Sit down for ice cream is best anyways. If you have little ones Sit down for ice cream is the only way to go. Those cuties makes such a mess of themselves walking around with their ice cream.:wizard:

I cant agree with most posts on the food at the Sci-Fi dine. We were on the DDP and very disapointed at the food quality when compared to other possible values for fine dining within the parks & resorts. We all had the ribs and they were very dry. I would agree that this is a decent place for a quick lunch but I would not ever use a DDP Dinner at the sci-fi dine. What else struck me as odd was that they combine groups within the same dining cars without notice. I just thought it was strange having dinner with strangers and having to listen to the conversation from the row behind me .. Very close behind me .. if you only have 3 or 4 people and feel the same as I do I would advise that you request your own car in advance or you might wind up dining with strangers..

Can 5 people fit in one car? I am traveling with DH, DS age 4, DS age 8 and Grandma.

Yes, five people can fit in one car and that will ensure that you have a private "car" They have cars with 2 rows or three rows two people each row. keep in mind that some larger people will not fit. These compare to a very tight booth. I just would not use a dining plan dinner credit. Try a burger for lunch and it should be a fun time .. dinner .. well not so much

We have an ADR here for 5 of us and planned on using 3 DDP credits and sharing. Do you think there will be enough food? Two are teenage girls who don't eat a whole lot. Also do you think this is not a good value to use our DDP credits this way?
