My wife and I plan to go on our next trip. Do we need to request to sit in one of the booths seats where we sit next to each other? Or will they sit us in one of those automatically since it's just the two of us? We most likely will request no matter what once we get there, we are just curious what to expect.

If you have ADR, you will likely be sat in a car, which is bench seatsm(side by side). When you check in there are photos on the podium that shows cars for those with ADR and that walkups will be sat at the picnic tables at the back. Most the time it seems couples are sat a "hitchhikers" in the back seat.

I most often travel to WDW as a party of 2 and usually seated in one of the cars together and then a larger party in the other rows.

You'll be seated next to each other. Almost all of the seats are 2-person booth seats, with 3 booths one behind another in each car (so you may share a car with other parties but it's not a communal table such as at Biergarten). There are very few seats that are at "picnic tables" in the back, and those are rarely given to couples who have an ADR.

Thanks for the responses! We just saw some pictures and saw they also had car tables mixed in with all the car booths so we weren't sure if we had to give our preference.

There are only a few of those and used primarily for large groups who would not fit into a traditional car.
