Could someone give me some advice on my ADR's. We are thinking of Sci-Fi Dine-in theater. How is the atmosphere and food? It looks like it would be fun. My boys are 7 and 5- would they enjoy it? Also alittle info on the movie clips would be appreciated as I read in the Unofficial Guide to Disney that they are vintage horror/sci-fi would this be too much for them? :) Thanks.........

We went there on our last trip in April, the boys were just 3. They thought it was neat to eat in a car. They did not car to much for the movie part, nor did we. But it was a neat experience. The food was good, I really enjoyed the shakes. Plus I think the servers were on roller skates, that was neat.

While we thought the atmosphere was great fun, we thought the food was nothing to write home about, as the saying goes. Yet I think it is something everyone should experience at least once! The film clips are more silly than scary, in my opinion. I think your kids-and you-will get a kick out of it! :upsidedow

:wave2: We love Sci Fi and eat there every trip. I highly recommend it on the atmosphere alone, one suggestion I would make is to book it for lunch and stick to the burgers/fries/onion rings/milkshake fare. They have alot of gourmet type food for dinner and it gets pretty bad reviews from everything I have heard, let alone not fitting in at all with the rest of the theming.

We ate dinner there and the kids loved it. The clips are kind of funny. Really awful, low budget, old sci-fi movie clips like from Plan 9 from Outer Space, the 50 Foot Woman (I think). My DS was laughing because they were so silly and he has PDD and rarely laughs at anything. I was laughing myself.

The food was not bad. DS enjoyed his butcher steak. Mine was a little fatty in one spot, but it wasn't bad. Onion rings were good and they gave me the chocolate shake as my beverage on the DDP and it was yummy!

We just got back about a week ago and we went to the Sci-Fi. We thought it was good. We loved the food and the whole setting. We loved the ribs and the cheesecake was really good!

We were just there 2wks ago and did a walk up without an adr for lunch. The burgers are great and the dinner is just so so. I would recommend lunch, nice atmosphere and not too cold. The old movies is just part of the atmosphere, nothing I really wanted to watch. We just basically talked about what we were going to do that day in the park.

My boys are 5 and 8. We had a lunch ADR early in our trip. We all LOVED IT!!!! The boys loved it so much that they talked me into cancelling Marrakesh later in the week and going back for dinner. We could only get a very late dinner (10 pm), but they talked me into it. It could have been because we were eating so late, but we really didn't like the food at dinner as much. The atmosphere was still great, but we even liked that better at lunch. There is something about leaving the bright Florida sunshine to walk into the cool night and a drive-in movie. It wasn't quite as magical when it was dark outside. So, I would DEFINITELY go! But, I would do lunch. :thumbsup2 My boys have made me promise to make 2 lunch ADRs next trip. :goodvibes

Oops, I forgot to post about the movies.
The boys loved them too! There were some old cartoons mixed in with some silly Sci-Fi stuff. They were not scary at all. We got some pretty big laughs out of them. ;)

I agree with the pp -- the clips aren't really scary -- my six year old dd was fine with them. It's just that the meal is only "so-so" -- really not worth it for Disney, IMO. Also -- it's COLD in there!!!! So cold that it really distracted from our meal. This was our worst meal on our trip in June. I think people either LOVE it or HATE it. You probably should eat there just once just to see which side you're on!

This was easily our second worst meal at WDW (1st was Planet Hollywood for service reasons, not food). The wait (despite our ADR) was horrible. The food was AWFUL. I had a salad that was soggy, and DH had something else that wasn't very good.

The atmosphere was fun, I'll admit that. However, for our 2.5 year old, the movies were over her head. Plus, our family of three didn't really fit into the cars, we wound up all squishing in the front seat, since it was either that or splitting up into two rows, not facing eachother.

Since they always get compared, I'll say that we really enjoyed 50s Prime Time Cafe. Fun atmosphere, TVs playing 50s programs, great food! :thumbsup2

we always make ADRs for sci-fi every trip!

love the dark, cool, quiet atmosphere, sitting in little cars facing forward watching old sci-fi trailers on a big screen!

burgers, fries, onion rings & shakes - can't go wrong with them

not scary, just lots of fun entertainment

We were just there in August with my 7 year old son and he LOVED it at the Sci-Fi. There were only a few wierd allien like clips from what I remember and it did not upset my son. There were cartoons that he really enjoyed and the old intermission commericals from the drive in theatres too! Brought back memories!
We really enjoyed our meals as well. The onion rings were super!

The SciFi has become a family tradition..it is really cool. We have always eaten dinner there. You can get burgers there even though they're not on the menu for dinner. Just ask them and they offer all kinds of toppings. The onion rings and chocolate shakes are good and we love the BLT soup (hold the lettuce).

Thanks everyone!! It sounds like we will enjoy it!! I was mostly concerned about the movie clips--- but they sound silly so I am sure my boys will like them:) I think I will book my ADR's for Lunch.

Theres one part where a woman on the film clip screams and all the servers join in-sounded really disturbing whilst I was waiting to go in,I thought it was the food!

We ate lunch at Sci-Fi last September and although we loved the atmosphere, we had the WORST food and service at Sci-Fi. It was truly disappointing since we enjoyed the restaurant itself. It was so bad that we agreed not to dine there again anytime soon (even my DD9 felt that way). Fortunately we were on the Free Dining plan so at least it didn't cost me anything (otherwise, I would've been irate).

However, I understand that even the best restaurants can have bad food/service at times, so hopefully you'll luck out. Either way, it's a neat experience, especially for kids.

My two kids love it there. They laugh at the movie clips. We go for lunch.

The food was so-so when we were there last in 2005 but I figure as long as they have the Glow-Tini I'll be happy.

DH and I went for lunch in July and really liked it. Loved our burgers and our shakes!!!!!
We had a 1:30 ADR and were seated promptly.

I always hear a lot of mixed reviews about this place but we LOVE it! We were lucky enough to get table without an ADR on our trip in May 2006, but in May 2005 and December 2006 we were turned away because they were booked solid. In December we went on the first day of our trip which was the 2nd...I asked if I could make a ressie for later in the week and the guy looked through the book, and said he didn't have any availability until the week after Christmas! I say go for it! If you don't like, you don't ever have to go back but I always like to try everything once to form my own opinion about it :goodvibes
