Schwann's frozen foods

I hate to admit it... but their pizza rolls (which it sadly looks as though they've been discontinued), mini pizzas, and quesadillas got me through college.

I haven't had Schwans in over a decade, but now you're making me nostalgic.
Not the pizza's! Those were so so good! They always stop the things that sell so good.

Psst. Want to hear a secret? If you have Red Barron Pizza in your grocery store........look at the box. They're made by Schwans.

My grandparents order from them. I remember staying with them during the summer and the Schwan man would always come the first or second day we were there. Grandma would let each grandkid pick a whole box of ice cream. OH man we were in heaven!

Many years ago when I ordered from them, I got the ice cream, pizzas, and the hamburgers. They were so good.

There is a current coupon code for new online customers. The code is FIFTYOFF and it gives you 50% off your order of up to $100

My husband works for Schwanns so I will be happy to answer as many questions as I can.

Some Schwanns items are higher quality than others. Some of my personal favorites are the teriakyi chicken bites, oven roasted chicken bites, steamer broccoli, strawberry supreme frozen yogurt, fudge brownie frozen yogurt, mozerella cheese sticks, and the gluten free pizzas. My parents live in a very rural area with limited options and since my brother has celiac many Schwanns products give him a lot more options than they have at their small local grocery store. The ice cream is typically on par or better than other premium grocery store brands like Ben & Jerry's or baskin robbins. They do carry some wild caught fish but not organic products so if thats your priority it probably wouldn't be as useful to you. Pre-ordering guarantees that they will have what you want on the truck if you wait and order at the door then you are subject to availability on your items. In general I feel like its great for convienence and healthier than fast food. Its also nice for those nights you are just too tired to really cook and want something easy and for people that live in very rural areas and older people or single people who are looking for something a step above a tv dinner. The Live Smart line emphasizes healthier options for those that are interested but the ice cream is the star of the truck.

We order about once a month. Ice cream of course is always a winner, but my family enjoys their beef tips and roast.

I do know that it's incredibly hard to get rid of them!!! They will NOT leave you alone if you decide to not buy from them anymore. My parents tried them a few times many years ago and they kept knocking at the door for years. When I tried the new customer promotion I had to stop answering the door because they wouldn't go away (after I told them I didn't like the quality and wouldn't be ordering more). It's also very expensive...obviously you're paying for convenience which is certainly worth something, but it adds up quick!

I Agree!!

My cousin refered the Schwann's man to me about 10 years ago. I really didn't but much from him. Just the frozen pizzas and some ice cream. Maybe a few other things here and there. He came I think twice a month. I always bought off the truck, no preorder. I do recall seasonal items for freezer treats. I used ho, for about a year or so. Only because he was so persistent. I wouldn't answer the door after a while. Neighbors would telll me he would drive by looking to see if I was home yet. The funny thing is, I would be "out" when I know his delivery timeframe. It was that bad. We actually called him the Schwann stalker. One time, he came in my backyard looking for me. He eventually stopped coming around.:cool1:

The reason the Schwanns guys are so persistent is about quotas and the pay structure. They work on commission and are under pressure to meet weekly and daily sales goals. If you don't want to buy anything just answer the door and say you don't want anything. You can also ask your delivery guy to put you on his route as only coming when you place a preorder.

That's the sales pitch Schwans has been using recently to get people to pre-order, but it is no guarantee. More than once the computer says it is on the truck, and the handheld computer the driver has says it is on the truck, and it isn't on the truck. Usually if I order with the driver when he comes, it WILL be on the truck on the next visit. But Schwans closed 2 of their 3 depots here in recent years, and their inventory has dropped. And nationally, they are some items that get back ordered.

It is expensive, but we do order about every other month. The skillet meals are worth it for us - they help us not eat out as much. We also have a problem with the apple breakfast bites around here! I like being able to order online, and I usually get a decent coupon (like 30% off this time) if I go for a while without ordering.

We only get a few items from them, pretty much every 2 weeks.

Southwest Roasted Corn (I like to put it with black beans, served with tortillas, sour cream and cheese.)
Multigrain loaf (6 small loaves, very yummy)
French baguettes (good)
Special recipe pizzas (the sauce is really good on those, and I love the Mexican style)
Ice cream sandwiches or cones

I LOVE the lemon pie, but it's seasonal. /cry
The key lime is good.

In the past, we've got the Mediterranean and Lemon garlic veg blends. both are really good, but they cost way more than I pay at the grocery store for similar. The strawberry Lemonade sherbet is really good. the Italian smoked sausage w/monterey Jack cheese is good.

The mahi mahi and burgers are horrible. (The burgers are NOT as bad as the Johnsonville burgers----those have the weirdest texture.)

#444 Fire grilled Fully Cooked Angus Burgers? Wow, those are among the best burgers I have every had. Good beef flavor and spicing, and 1:30 in the microwave, they are ready.
