My daughter has been telling me that they only have one of the long jump ropes that you use for multiple people jumping at once. So the line at recess is long and not everyone gets a turn. The gym teacher apparently supplied it and told another parent that he cannot get anymore. I would like to buy a couple and donate them to the school. The only ones I can find at regular toy stores are very flimsy, not like the nice heavy ones I remember. So my question is, do you know where to get a good quality jump rope???

also, does anyone know the length of a good jump rope designed for two swingers and a jumper?

I do not remember the length that I ordered, but they only come in two lengths, personal and for "twirling". I bought my jump ropes for my class through the school's supply company. Call your local school district and see if they can put a personal order in for you since you will be donating them to the school. I do remember that they weren't that much money and I was able to buy a few sets for double dutch. I think this is a great idea and I know the children will appreciate it!

I think I've seen them in sporting goods stores - maybe Dick's or Sports Authority? That's a good place to start.

Or you can donate money to the school (through the gym teacher to make sure that's where your money ends up) to purchase new equipment. Our PTO does this regularly when things get used up or lost. They should have all the contacts.

I agree, very nice thing to do. Its sad that our schools don't have the money for these kinds of things, isn't it?

do a google search for "double dutch jump ropes". I know those would be the length & durability you are looking for.

I used to work for school specialty before they were bought by Beckley Cardy. They carry great products for schools and you didn't have to be associated with a school to buy from them. I assume that still holds true. Here's their new website: http://www.beckleycardy.com/home.jsp

I've ordered from S&S Worldwide before. They have tons of outdoor toys, etc and also craft supplies. http://www.ssww.com/store/browse/grp=SPF/ They carry double dutch jump ropes in different lengths.

As rec director of our town, I ordered ALL sporting equipment from SSWW for 5 years....sign up your email address, and you'll get emails with % off and free shipping etc... Shipping is from CT and to VT usually took 2 days

Go to the hardware store and get rope cut to length..it's nice and heavy and perfect for jumpropes..cheaper too!

Funny this came up today. I am considering donating some playground equipment to my DD's middle school (grades 5 - 8). They have a patch of sand, a few swings and some basketball hoops (but not balls) for recess. PITIFUL!! I thought about donating 2-3 basketballs and a few jumpropes. I measured our regular one person jumprope. It is about 7 feet long. So for two swingers and one jumper I would imagine it would have to be at least 9 feet long.

I was going to donate some hula hoops too, but I wasn't sure if they would have a storage problem with this stuff... at least a few jump ropes and balls can be stored in large crate by the recess door.

Let me know what you find!..............P

Thanks for the good ideas and the websites. I have been able to corral a bunch of parents and we have ordered;

10 full length jump ropes
10 individual jump ropes
8 four square balls
8 packages of side walk chalk
8 footballs
8 basketballs
1 large locking waterproof storage bin

next I am going to work on getting some board games for indoor recess during the summer.

Oh how I wish we had parents like you at our school! Great job! The kids, and the teachers will appreciate it!
