Well, once again as in 9/11 schools must decide whether to let trips go on. Our high school cancelled several trips this week. My neice is scheduled to go to Niagara falls for a Cheerleading competition April 2nd and they haven't made a decision yet, but it may be cancelled. These girls have been training all year for this. They aren't flying but taking busses.
Also, several clubs have non-school sanctioned trips to Europe scheduled over Easter break. One is to England one is to France ( I have a son on this one). These were booked in Sept. The school does not have an official say in these trips but they are headed up by teachers in these departments. I would not be comfortable with overseas travel for students at this time. And it is not just a question of a tragedy. But if something serious were to happen, these students may find themselves stuck overseas, with flights cancelled for a week. It is sad, but I think these should be cancelled. If it was my family going, I might not even thing about cancelling. I feel we should disrupt our lives as little as possible. Terrorism could strike on a bus in your home town. But to send my child with a school group is different. I don't think the local trips should be cancelled at all, unless they are in a major city, that is receiving threats/alerts.
My son and neice are freshman/sophomore so it is not too bad for them. I really feel for seniors though.
Also, the trips that are cancelled by the school do not get their money back. I understand it is in the contract, but since theses companies do business with the school all of the time, I feel they should issue a partial refund.
