School supplies Thread

ohhh, glad I stumbled on this thread. I have hit the Staples sales twice now, but I am going to head to Walmart today (even though I have been avoiding that place like the plague!) to get some more supplies. Our school supplies the kids with everything, but I like to have the stuff on hand at home.

I went to Staples yesterday with my kids and bought our limit of the 1 cent folders, pencils and the 25 cent binders. (We even found some DIS lime green ones! :thumbsup2 ) Unfortunately, they were out of the Purell. :sad1: Oh well. Then we went to Wal-Mart in search of the elusive 5 cent notebooks. It took some looking, but we found them! :woohoo: Our Wal-Mart stocked them on the bottom shelf, behind a huge pillar. :headache: You really had to look for them! We bought 45 for $2.25! :goodvibes Once I found them and started stocking up, a woman behind me who was a teacher, bought 4 cases of them. I don't think these will last long! I've never seen the 1-subject notebooks for less than 10 cents. We go through them like crazy. I may have to go back today and get more.

Thanks for starting this thread! :goodvibes Happy Hunting!

Our Walmart had none on the shelf so I asked and the clerk went into the back and brought out 2 boxes with no problem !!! I think you should have found the manager and let him know how unhelpful his staff was !!

Our Walmart is just starting to put out stuff. They had maybe half of an aisle today, lots of glue sticks/glue and crayola stuff, but no paper notebooks yet. Our schools start Aug. 1st, I'm just hoping they'll get the list out soon!

Wow, by the posts i'v seen a lot of people start school in early to mid Aug. In Michigan we do not start until after Labor Day.

That's when we used to start when I was a kid. This year, my kids start Aug 19th!:scared1: Good for me but not for my kids...LOL!:rotfl:

Well, we beat you! We start on August 13th! I can't believe the summer is half over already!!! It is so depressing!!!:sad2:

Hi! My kids start the 19th, too! We are in Columbus, Hilliard School District. How about you?

Here in NYC, The kids get out in June and start back after Labor Day. It's so strange when I read how early other states start back. I've read that some are back already! Wow! What happened to good ole summer vacation?

<Sorry that I hijacked the thread>

We start back the 30th of this month!!! I will be heading to walmart today. They were just putting out stuff two days ago. My husband said they had put the schools list out but he didn't bring one home. thanks a lot dear!

Central MA here - start back date Tuesday Aug. 26th - go to school T-W-TH - have Friday through following Monday off for Labor Day then in full time :confused3

Southern Illinois (St. Louis suburb) - Many of our schools start mid-August and let out right before Memorial Day *If no snow days taken*. My daughter starts August 13th for a WHOLE two hours - seems to be a waste in my opinion for the first day.

I am on the hunt for 5 inch binders for a good deal and tab folders with pockets I think. Not the ones you have to print the labels out for the ones you write the subjects in for.
Also possibly pencil boxes.

I am annoyed at the school for not sending a list of what is needed home while the sales are on. Waiting til when school starts back just before labor day things will be picked over and probably not on as good of a sale.

Five inch binders are really expensive--I have never found them on sale. DS had to have two of them for science last year adn I thik I paid like $30 for them--way too much! If you see them on sale, grab them fast!
5 inches? Really? Last year DD(9th grade) needed 2 2" binders....when those 2 went into her backpack almost nothing else would fit in there. I can't imagine a 5inch binder. That's insane!

yeah, it is nice to start later so the kids have the whole summer. My kids go to Private school so they start back the 26th of Aug, so we dont get that nice treat! LOL

Have a Great day!

Thanks for starting this thread! I am sooo going to staples! LOL

Quick brag about my Walmart trip today:

40- 1 subject notebooks $2.00
1 pack of colored pencils .60
40 pack of neon erasers for ends of pencils .97
2 - 2packs of Glue sticks .44
2- pairs of kids scissors 1.10
1 - Elmers Glue .22
4- composition notebooks 2.00

TOTAL: $7.33

I got the notebooks, glue and crayons at walmart. I splurged and got 4 glossy folders for 84 cents :cool1:

Is $2.00 good for washable markers?????? Compared to everything else they seem kind of expensive!!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I thought that too bridget!!!!!!!!! Which is why I didn't throw any in my cart. Wouldn't want to break the bank ya know!?:rotfl2:

Thanks to those of you who lured me into WalMart--I only stop there about once or twice per year--ours is a real dump and difficult to maneauver with all the crap in aisles--anyway I was able to get:
Rulars for .27
Pens for .50
Spiral notebooks for .05
glue sticks 2 pks .22
school glue .22
eraser tops .97
Colored pencils .88
crayons .22
I figured I could get some other stuff for less $$, but one stop shopping is my thing so I grabbed everything in one place to prevent me from running around wasting more $$ in gas.
filler paper .50
hand sanitizer .87
wire locker shelf that folds 3.97
kleenex .97
plain black bindr .92
1 inch designer colors binder 1.97
1.5 inch designer color binder 3.38
correction tape 1.76
highlighters 1.74
large index cards 1.68
designer colors composition notebook 2.24 (she's in 8th grade had to let her be cool)
1.5 inch plain binder 3.38
tinted 1.5 inch binder 2.88
So long as I was there I picked up everythng else I needed and wanted and ended up spending $134
But I have everything both kids need for school, the weird brush I've been lookig for to clean my fridge coils, oxyclean, stuff for my classroom, the big thing of foil, haircolor, weed killer and two pair of shorts and a tank for DD. Man what a bizarre bunch of stuff--anyway thanks for the heads up I'm certain we'd be on vacation for much of the office max .01 sale so we'd no doubt have paid much more without knowing about this stuff.

I also skipped the markers for $2.00 usually they are on sale at Target for like .88 and I will wait until then to grab a few for home and my classroom. :lmao: Neither of my kids really need them and I only stock for the kids who want to use them but don't have any at work.

i'm soooooo annoyed at DD's school (she starts middle school august 11th) for not giving us a supply list! the principal announced at move-up night that it would be posted on the school's website in june (it's not, i checked yesterday), but i talked to another mom w/ a son in DD's class and she said the school told her yesterday the list might not be ready until august! WHAAAT?!? thankfully, her oldest was in 5th grade last year so she gave me the basic outline of what was needed. i'll get what i can now and the rest when i get a list. thanks for the heads-up ladies! anyone know where i can get a durable, clear backpack?
