School schedules came today-when do you start school?

My kids start this wednesday, august 11. Early! Just moved to Oklahoma, just in time for school.

It's state law here that school cannot start before Sept 1st or before Labor Day, whichever comes first.

Since Labor Day is so late this year, we start on Sept 1st. :)

My kids start 8/17. My 7th grader got her schedule 2 weeks ago, but the counselors weren't in to make changes/corrections until today, so I had to call this morning to correct her schedule, as they didn't have her show choir on there at all. Hopefully we don't have more confusion, at this point they are having her go every other day to both choir and p.e., instead of every day like the rest of the kids.

I'm going back August 23rd.
Gotta embrace these last two weeks of summer.

My kids (senior and 5th grade) go back on September 1. My senior's last day is June 2nd, my 5th grader's last day is June 7th (half day).

DS got his friday and school starts on the 23rd.

DD got hers friday as well, but it was an incomplete schedule. And here's my complaint about that.

We go in, go to the desk give them her name. They hand her a copy of the schedule and the paperwork we need to fill out. She keeps the schedule, just telling us who she got for her main classes. We proceed thru registration. She gets her books and stash them in her locker. As we are walking out, she sees one of her friends. She hands me her schedule and takes off. This is the frist time I actually looked at the thing.

It's missing one whole class. We go and find the princpal and point out that her last class for the 1st semester is not on there. He looks at and tells us that would be because her 1st selection of an elective was full. They would need to pull her elective sheet out and see where they could place her and correct her schedule.

Now to me, this is completely butt backwards. There should be a edit written into the program, that if a student has an incomplete schedule, it should be flagged and addressed BEFORE HANDED TO THE STUDENT. It shouldn't be up to the family to catch and notify the school. By not having an internal edit, it is just one more "job" that the parents have to do for the schools.

Depending on what elective she has as a 2nd choice, it could move her schedule all around. And she really likes it the way it is - class flow - and she has teachers she really wants to be with.

Youngest two go back Aug. 17 (which means I go back to work then too.:sad1:)

Oldest DS college starts Aug. 23 but he has to be there Aug. 14 since he's a freshman.

DD starts her sophomore year of high school September 10th. She goes to a county vocational school. The schools in our town start back August 31st.

I love DD's school and I know she is looking forward to going back in a lot of ways, but we both dread the hectic schedule that comes with the school year.

My college student starts Aougust 30th. My high school kids start on September 8th.

I wish MN would adopt something like this, but the resorters and State Fair people have fought this for years.

My daughter starts her college classes on Aug 23rd.

Where is she going to school? If she is a freshman come join us on the 2010 College thread.

Ours start Aug 25 but I'm taking college classes that start Aug 16 so I have to find someone to stay with my son.

My kiddo starts the 11th - I always think its crazy early, but then she's off an entire week in Oct. for fall break, (WDW!!) two weeks at Christmas-time, and a whole week in March - plus a bunch of long weekends - and gets out the first week of June.
My college kids both start the 23rd.

September 9th.. DGD is pretty excited about starting the 7th grade..:goodvibes

I don't understand why your school does that. In the HS where I work, schedule conflicts are called down to the office in mid-May and things are ironed out. But I can see where they just didn't want to throw your daughter in a class she may not want. She will just have to decide which is more important--a class she likes, or taking a so-so class so have everything else.
