School roof collapsed near us

Luckily it happened during vacation when no one was in the building. It destroyed a 3rd grade classroom and burst pipes flooded the school. A close friend of mine works at this elementary school-they will be closed till Wednesday-just glad no one was hurt.

Wow, thank goodness it happened when it did, K. I recall when we have had huge snowfalls like you guys have had and the building and roofs collapsing for some time after. Scary.

Everyone is so lucky school was not in session.
Sometimes I wonder what people were thinking when they built flat roofs in areas with high snowfall amounts
I remember when the Hartford Civic Center collapsed for the same reason. Luckily it happened after a sporting event and nobody was hurt.

interestingly enough the portion of the roof that collapsed was a slanted roof. Talked to my friend this morning, and just as I had feared, it was her classroom she lost a lot of personal items. the library and computer lab are near her classroom and were also destroyed. I'm thinking of starting a book drive for her school as it looks like most of the library books were damaged.

I think this is a wonderful idea!!

Would you accept used books? I have many wonderful books for kids of elementary school age that I would love to donate to this school. My DSs are finished with them and I would love to see them being read again. Please let me know! Many of them are like new condition. I also have 2 Doctor Seuss books that are brand new.

Oh my goodness, thank Heaven the children weren't in that classroom. Very scary.
