School project help - Poets' homes - Updated with grade in post 11

Hello! I'm hoping some of you may be able to help my son with an assignment for his literature class.

He's to assume the role of a travel agent and put together a travel brochure for a tour related to a specific group of poets. His list includes William Butler Yeats, T. S. Eliot, W. H. Auden and Dylan Thomas.

The brochure is to include:
1. Birthplace and/or home of the poets
2. Location of these homes on a map
3. The best order to travel to these homes
4. Other attractions in each area
5. The method(s) of transportation
6. The starting/ending points of the tour
7. Background information on each poet.

The background information is no problem, and he's found a good bit of information on Yeats and Thomas. But he hasn't been able to track down anything on where Eliot and Auden may have lived. Any ideas for resources for these two?

Assuming he covers Auden, Thomas and Eliot first and ends up in London, what would be the quickest way for someone to travel to Sligo in Ireland? Or what would the most scenic or most fun way to get there?

Can't help with London to Ireland but, if he changes his mind about the overall route, there are a couple of ferry routes from Wales (Thomas) to Ireland.

From Thomas' neck of the woods there's Swansea / Cork or Pembroke/ Rosslare. There's also Holyhead / Dublin which would be further this end , but would be nearer Sligo.

If you need any local info for Thomas, I'd be happy to see if I can help

Thanks, Hilary. DS was interested in including a ferry trip as part of the route, so this gives him a good option.

WH Auden - was born in York (1907) and went to a school in Hindhead, Surrey when he was 8.

He later attended Christ College Oxford.

He moved to USA in 1939 and died in Austria in '72.

.... seems he moved around a lot!!!

I have his biography in a book so if you want more background info, do PM me.

TS Eliot is also in the book - born in St Louis, Missouri in 1888.
In 1914 he moved to Oxford to study at Merton College, and he decided to stay in England - there's quite a bit on him, so again let me know.

Poetry books containing these poets works often contain biographies, and the one I am referring to for this info is a compilation by Mike Read, title : One Hundred Favourite Poems, which I bought when my son had a poetry project.

Are there any good bed-and-breakfast type accommodations in your area?

There are loads of guest houses in Swansea and surrounding area - take a look here for some ideas. Anything on Oystermouth Road is quite near the ferry terminal.

What might be good would be to take a trip to Laugharne to see Thomas' Boat House (where he did most of his later writing), calling in at Browns Hotel (sadly not a hotel with any accommodation) where he drank (a lot! ). Browns is owned by Neil Morrissey, the actor, who also owns Hurst House, a 'real' hotel in Laugharne - much more than a B&B, so maybe not within the remit! Anyway, from Laugharne it would be a failry easy drive to Pembroke for the quicker ferry over to Ireland (Swansea's takes 10 hours!!)
