We're going the week of Nov. 7-12th and I am worried about crowd levels with schools giving days off before and after Veterans Day. Here in Canada we call them "Pro-D" (Professional Development) days. My daughters school does not have the 12th off (even though 11th is a Hoiday) and Im wondering how many schools are giving their students that day off.

Anyone know where I can find the info? Or can you tell me if your school has that day off?

We live in the East Bay of San Francisco. Our school district has the 11th and 12th off. We will be down there :cool1:

Almost every school will only have off Veterans day itself only. It will make the three day weekend busy, but have little effect on any other days.

At your hotel, SF has great urban transportation options.

We're only staying 1 night :sad1: so we would need to check out in the morning before we go do touristy stuff. So, not only will we have to find somewhere to park but we need to find somewhere to park where our car won't get broken into and all our stuff stolen :confused3

My kid's district (about 30 miles from DLR) is off on both the 11th and the 12th.

Where are you staying, I've stayed on Union Sq and the hotels don't all have parking, usually you or they take it to a garage. If this is the case you could park it for two days. Expect this to cost about 25-35 a day. SF is really tight.

If you aren't staying there it seems like there is a big garage right across from pier 39 too.

Are the garage's secure? We're staying at a place that gives us parking, but only for 1 night and that parking is iffy because its first come first serve and we won't be arriving until after dinner to check in. :headache:

With the 11th being a Thursday, I think a lot of schools wll have the 12th off. My daughter has the 11th & 12th off. My neice school about 60 miles away...does not.

We will be there the 12th - 14th.

The schools here have the 11th off but not 12th.
We are going to be there though (taking Friday off). I am sure it will be a bit bussier but I don't expect it will be anything like summer would be.

There's a parking garage at pier 39...seems pretty safe. very tourist-y location. i think you just gotta get your parking validated by one of the shops/restaurants at the pier.

But i guess it depends where you are going for the day. I've parked in plenty of random parking garages in some questionable areas and been ok. There are a few where the guy working at the garage will actually take your keys and give you a tag which you then return to him later to get your keys and your car back.

I think the safest would be Pier 39 though...just because of location and how many people are there and use it.

Also, watch out for prices. I've parked in one that was $8 all day till midnight, and another that was $2.50 an hour!
