Ok didnt quite know or who to ask about this.

But im obv planning on going WDW next September, want i would like to know is that DD with be turning 4 in October which means does she actually start school in the September or do they have a January intake.

Its confusing as i would hate for DD to miss her first 2 weeks at school if she was to start in the September..

If she is turning 4 this October then she would probably start school the following september.

Surely this depends on the policy of the school she is likely to be attending or the local education authority?

I would suggest you contact them to ask the question.:thumbsup2

if she turns 4 this october she will start school in sep 2009. We are in devon and thats how it works here - i assume its the same wherever you are???:confused3 (Sep to end of feb (4th) birthdays start school the next September and Mar to end of Aug (4th) birthdays start the following January - So basically some kids will be almost 5 when they start school and the youngest will be 4 years and 4mths (ish)) - hope that helps??:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

this does depend on the school, if your child was going to my local school she would start in the January. As the previous poster said , you will need to check with the school she will be going to:)

DD will turn 4 in Oct 2009.

Just looking at my local council and all i can say is...confusing.
Might have to ring them this week just to clarify.

Most children in England start school (rather than nursery) the September after their 4th birthday. i.e. they must already be 4 before they start. So some will be 4 plus a day and some will be nearly 5.

Thanks so much for everyone replies.
I had to ask one of my friends said next Septemeber DD will start infant school and i was a bit worried as she would of only been 3 plus was booking our holiday for then.

If she turns 4 in Oct 2009 complusory schooling does not start technically until Jan 1st 2011, the first term after her 5th birthday!! Although realistically she will start full time in Sept 2010.

Claire ;)

I would imagine she would start after October or after Christmas? But then I dont know how they do this now:confused3

As previously stated, school isn't compulsory until term after child turns 5. However most school now take them just after they are 4 (as they now get get government funding for 4 year olds). They all vary on their intake policy, some do once a year, Sept after they are 4, some do twice, or more commonly I believe, 3 times a year-each time a new term starts they take in the next batch of 4 yr olds (they maximise funding that way).

Is your daughter at a local playgroup/nursery?-they are normally pretty clued up on what the local schools do. Whatever they do your daughter is unlikely to start 'reception' class before she is 4 -most likely the following Jan. A lot of schools who do one intake a 'stagger' them (normally based on age) so you could always ask to be in 'last' group :cutie:

She'll just love seeing all the princesses at that age! princess:

The intake system is at the descretion of the Local Authority and the Headteacher at the school. There is no additional funding for 4 year olds in a Reception class - additional funding only comes in when there is a nursery class attached to the Foundation Stage.

The normal rule of thumb would be : your child will start school in the September in the year (running from Sept to August) in which they turn 5. Most schools in my LEA have one intake in September, although Headteachers are able to change this to reflect the needs of the children.

Just speaking from experience, my eldest DD is an Oct Baby:lovestruc , and she didn't start school until the Sept before her 5th birthday:thumbsup2 , we don't have a Jan intake here. My 2 DD's have almost 2 years between them but just 1 school year:goodvibes

Thankyou to everyone for the advice.

I feel alot clearer on the situation :)
