School Closings

Our school uses something called the honeywell system. We get home call, cell call, email and text.

We have a different company doing ours, but we get the same notification. It's awesome~
I remember growing up in NJ, we didn't even have the tv list closings...that was later on...at first as I can remember, we had the fire whistles blow to signify no school.

We recently got a recorded system. It's SO nice. Previously we had a phone tree for teachers to let everyone know there was no school. The kids/families had to watch for it on TV or listen on the radio. The recorded system is good for announcements to reach all families as well, such as flu shot clinics and if there's some sort of emergency during the school day.

Yes, we do get called and have for 5 years now, for everything. School closings, picture days, testing reminders during test week, book fairs, PTO meetings... you get the picture. Since I work there and have children attending, I get two to three calls in addition to coworkers making sure I got the message. Usually I hear from my friends first since they fall before me on the alphabet if it is a school day change.

Ours calls. I wonder how much they spend on that?

Texts and Emails for school delays/closings.

We do get recorded calls to let us know when they are selling J. Corby pizzas, wrapping paper, etc--usually 2 or 3 of those letting us know that the deadline is approaching---Quite annoying:headache:.

My DD middle school calls when she is absent also.

When I was in school, I lived in a very rural area of Ohio. The 2 local radio stations is where we got our school closing info. Once in a great great while (usually with big snows, and multiple days off) our school would be on the TV ticker...We would be very excited that we hit the big time:rotfl:

We get automated phone calls and it is listed on internet sites, tv channels, and on the radio. The school doesn't do text alerts but you can sign up thru a few of the news sites for text alerts if you want to. We get automated calls for things like reminders for pto meetings, fundraisers, Title 1 events, early release reminders etc and city events like flu shot clinics. We do get pto emails weekly but those are only used for scheduled events.

The TV/Radio stations also list the school closings on their websites so we usually check there first-it's faster.

Our school does the automated call system too. They just started this year (NH). Problem is they call staff (me) at 5 and students(my kids) around 6. I really don't need 2 calls. Just as I finally fall back to sleep I get the 2nd call. Can't seem to get off that student list. :rotfl:

Woke up around 5 today but no call. I was bummed, I really wanted the day off. The call came at 5:30. Guess they decided to split me. :lmao:
Funny thing is not a single flake of snow has fallen yet. ;)

We get calls and e-mails - we can sign on for texts if we want. Yes I got the call last night. Schools in my part of MD are closed again today!!!!!

From NH too but we're off for Feb vacation this week.

We are in the Philadelphia area. No calls from the school district. We can look on the website or a list of closing and delays will be scrolled through the late evening and morning newscasts on the bottom of the screen.

Did you know you can sign up at KYW1060 to get text alerts when your district/school has an announcement. Works really well.

Our school just started doing the automated calls this year.

I had my own caller before though... ;) DH goes to work at 5:30, so he would call me if he heard something on his way in so I wouldn't have to get out of bed and check online.

Our school almost never closes. They maybe have one snow day a year-- and we average 12ft. Even when every other local school is closed, my kids usually have a two hour delay.

Our district does the automated call for closings, delays and everything else, lol. I get calls about fundraisers, blood drives, sports events.

I remember being a kid and waking up on a snowy day and having to sit with my ear glues to the radio waiting for those magic word:cool1: Kids today are so spoiled:rotfl:

Our school just started calling this year and we love it!! We get the call, I tell DD to turn off her alarm and we go back to sleep! :thumbsup2

We're off next week. Wonder why the difference. Do your kids go to private school? I know when I did we had one week the corresponded with NH and one with MA.

Our school district is very behind the times with this. Although our town has an emergency alert system in place, that alerts you via cellphone, telephone, email, and/or text, the class moms are still in charge of calling everyone. :confused3

I remember the siren, and I'm in NJ. Nothing better than to be warm in bed and hear that noice! :goodvibes
