What the heck is School Bread? We have lots of yummy food in NYC, but never heard of School Bread. :rotfl2: We DO have a couple of new Earl of Sandwich locations in the city, one right by my office! :woohoo: We've got yummy dirty water dogs, knishes, and we make a really nice sandwich! :rotfl: Oh, and nobody does pizza like NY! And a real NY bagel! Ok, I'm making myself hungry. ROFL

So please tell me, what is School Bread?

I was curious too so I googled it. This is what I found:

This treat, found in Epcot’s Norway pavilion at Kringla Bakeri og Cafe, is actually pretty simple. A sweet bread roll is injected with vanilla pudding or custard, then covered with sweet icing and toasted coconut. The School Bread recipe comes from a classic Norwegian snack (properly titled “Skolebrød”), which kids took to school in their packed lunches or parents sold at bake sales.

I've lived in NY all my life, as well as my parents and grandparents.
I have NEVER heard of school bread. The first thing I thought of was stale bread that kids may get when they eat lunch in school that the school provides????? I have never ever heard any mention of school bread but thanks for the poster that gave us the information.

A quick Google search shows that there was a Norwegian bakery called Leske's that closed last year but is re opening in May. I'd bet that would be your only chance to find School Bread in NYC.

Sorry, I thought everyone on the WDW forum would know about school bread. It's the best pastry in the world, or at least in WDW. I look forward to it every year. Anyway, I was just thinking maybe someone in NYC would know of a little Norwegian bakery or scandanavian place to get my fix. If you've never had one, make it a point on your next trip to the world to get one.

Thanks for that! I'll look it up.

I can tell you it can not be found in Midtown
However there are lot of very overpriced Bakeries that sell stale cookies and cake.... Think Disney is expensive :lmao:
Bread Papas cream puffs is about as close as you will get they are not expensive there is one on 41 Street between 5th and Madison in a place called Cafe Zaiya-- also has fairly good americanized Japaneese food.
if you would like I know a place that sells bite sized cupcakes for 1.25 each --bite sized for a child that is... they are however fresh. ot expensive there is one on 41 Street between 5th ave and Madison in a place called Cafe Zaiya-- alos has fairly good americanized Japaneese food.

I found a place online called Bakeri that sells School Bread. It's 5 miles from my hotel, which from what I hear of NYC is an eternity away.

lsenquiz-how did you type those weird Norwegian letters in School Bread? When I copy and pasted that into google I was able to find stuff.

I'm not sure on the school bread...but DEFINATELY go to Crumbs and get a cupcake!! Yum! Apple cobbler and the Caramel one's are delicious!!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! We were last there in August of 2011, and it was still the fluffy, creamy, coconutty dream of old. A curse on whoever order the change.
