Has anyone been to a Scholastic Book Warehouse Sale? There's one coming up in my area & I signed up (as a former teacher) to get in. I was wondering if this was worth precious shopping time and money :) TIA!

I have bought books at their sale for my classroom. Most books are 50% off, some even more. I would suggest going and taking a look to see if there is anything of intrest to you.

I have gone to several and seem to always spend way more than I planned! :rotfl:

A caveat: you cannot go looking for something specific, as you probably won't find it. But they do have some great deals, as pp said usually 50% off, though also some that are $1, $2, $3. I've found many things for school and for presents. They don;t just have books, too, but things like posters, pencils, kits, etc.

Have fun!

how can i find out where the sales will be? Do you have to be a teacher to go? I'm a teachers aide. My dd10 is a book addict and i would love to take her.

I find they're hit or miss. The first one we went to, I spent SO much $$ it's not even funny...the next one wasn't as good, the third was a waste of time.

The books at the first one were mostly 80% off, the 2nd one there were a bunch...the 3rd, there was ONE rack of 80%, some $1 books, and mostly everything else was 25% off...NOT worth the drive.

The only way to find out is to go. LOL It's still a lot of fun! Just make sure at the register they TELL you what stuff is ringing up...they're often wrong.

PP...check here to see if there's one in your area & when. ANYONE who works in some capacity for a school can go...including parent volunteers. (And they don't check ID...) http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse/

Thanks everyone...I think I'll check it out. As stated, anyone who who serves the school in some capacity can go, but from what I understand, you have to pre-register & bring email confirmation to be admitted

Definitely preregister...even if they don't check, if you register you get a coupon you can print out & bring...like $10 off $60 or so.

You don't have to preregister. If you do they give you a coupon for $5 off or something like that. I find that the sale in the Spring is much better than the one in the Winter.

Try to go the first or second day it is open. In my area the books get picked over quickly.

I have been going on and off for years. The sales come every December and May -- at the end of the book fair season. Schools usually have two book fairs a year. Once all of the schools are done with their fairs, the warehouse has a sale to unload merchandise. I used to never buy the toys and things at the actual book fairs in the school because they were full price. Then I'd get them for 50% off at the book fair.

Now things have changed a bit. Books that were sold at this year's book fair and any recently new sellers (within the last 12 months or so) are not 50% off any more. They are only 30% off which is not much better than going to Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Border's with your teacher discount card (they're free). The toys are also only 30% off now. Things aren't marked with prices, so when I check out, I tell the cashier to let me know if something is not 50% off. Unless it's a must have that one of my kids wants, I pass on it. There are not nearly as many 50% off things as there used to be.

Years ago those sales had EVERYTHING in the store except for software at 50% off. Unfortunately, those days are gone. If you like books though, go for it. 30% still isn't bad.
