We'll be visiting friends later this week and they asked if we'd like to tag along to their daughter's book fair one evening. At first DD was all about it, but then she remembered her book fair is in 2 weeks. Does anyone know if they vary from state to state or region to region? We'll still go, but she'd like the majority of her purchases to be made at her school if the books are the same. They're in Florida, we're in Georgia. Thanks! :goodvibes

My suspicion would be that both fairs would have pretty much the same selection of books. What's popular in Kid Lit tends to be national (and sometimes even global) these days.

But if you want to check and see if the sales offices are the same:

You can put in your zip code and your friends' zip code and see!

They will be pretty much the same. I have had kids in schools in 3 states and all 3 had the fairs and they were virtually identical.

The PP got it right (I am chairing the Scholastic Fair at my kids' school next week, so I'm knee-deep in it right now!). All the fairs are about the same. One school may choose a 'premium' fair and that would include less junky, licensed-character stuff and fewer knick knacks at checkout, but the majority of the books are going to be the same. If I were in your shoes, I'd let my child buy one or two smaller books (about $10 total) just to be polite, and save the big spending for the fair at home. Have a great trip!

It's the same here. Each elementary school has it's own book fair, and I've been to them at a few different schools. I found that the books were pretty much the same, but at some of the schools they had a lot of the 'extra' stuff like pencils, bookmarks, and little things like that. At other schools it was JUST books.

Oh, and our school has the book fair twice a year. The first one (in the fall) is just regular. The one in the spring has EVERYTHING 50% off. I always gave my child a small amount of money for the one in the fall and more in the spring, when the dollars stretched a lot farther.
