Has anyone heard of the story of Schapelle Corby???

There was an HBO special a couple of years ago on her called "GANJA QUEEN." I don't know why I didn't hear about this years ago but it's just been recently that I've heard the story.

Anyone have any opinions on this story??? Personally, I think she's innocent. No way in the world she could of had that much weed in her boogie board bag and gotten through two airports BEFORE she arrived in Bali with no one else finding it.

It's also been revealed that on the same exact day that Schapelle Corby travelled from Australia to Bali - there were airport employees that were caught planting drugs in other bags - that fact alone should be enough proof she didn't do anything - why isn't the Austalian government trying to free this woman???

This is only thread on the DISboards that I could find about the case:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=808528&highlight=schapelle+corby

There is a youtube video that has been made by supporters for Schapelle - link is in my signature.

I saw the HBO special about her. My gut reaction is that either she knew that the drugs were in the bag or someone very close to her knew. Unfortunately, there seems to be a drug history in her family. I remember some hoopla about her being photographed with a well known drug smuggler, her brother was arrested for a drug related crime and he was mentioned as someone who could have been responsible for planting the drugs in her bag and there was speculation that her sister had once carried drugs into Bali. Apparently the brother was also in possession of her bag for a while during their travels.

Sad story, never heard of it.

Don't know enough of the situation regarding her "set up" but it is very very sad.........

So over hearing about this.

Her family had priors and she's not the innocent that people think she is. If she wasn't attractive and playing the "insanity" card, no one would care.

Check out the story of the "Bali nine", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bali_Nine, and then try to figure out why schapelle Corby should get any preferential treatment.

me too.

and im also kinda sick of her family to be honest. her sister mercedes did a photo shoot for a mens magazine just as all the attention was dying down (or so it seemed to me).

but this video of her mother made me lol:

My 2 cents worth is :

I'm wondering if it wasn't her brothers ?????? He was the one carrying the bag, it was just her bag and she did claim it and open it in customs, this is tricky, I don't really know if she is guilty or not????

This was huge news for quite a while in Oz and NZ back when she was caught and underwent trial. I recall it was widely reported how she tried to stop the customs' officer looking in the offending bag at the time she was caught. Although initially there was huge public support for her, it ostensibly changed. After the verdict was issued, the consensus seemed to be that she had a good lawyer who tried to create doubt, but just got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and played the public sympathy card using her appearance and the international aspect to her advantage.

I had never heard of this case, but I watched the video linked in your signature, OP. I thought your husband's music was good :) but the video was weird. Why was it "presented" by those weird figures of Obama and Gordon Brown? Do they have any connection to the case? Also their voices-that automated voice is so annoying...I saw in the comments someone said the video would appeal to Gen Y, that would explain my reaction as I am older than that ;) (Let's just say I am of the generation for whom the movie "Midnight Express" was a cautionary tale...)

I have to say the content of the video wasn't that persuasive...a lot of unsubstantiated allegations, vague claims of her being set up, etc. I think I will look up an article or something, the old-fashioned way.

Ok, maybe I missed something???? What does your link have to do with this girl? :confused3 I may just be confused please enlighten me. In your link I see a group of people taping 18 lbs of heroin to their bodies, this girl jad what, 9 lbs of pot in a bag. I think there is a huge difference in the 2 incidences. I admit I don't know anything about either case other than what I read from this thread so if there is more to it please inform me. Also, what does her family and their "priors" have to do with her situation? I have relatives who have criminal histories, are alcoholics and drug addicts...does that mean that I should suffer from their mistakes? Just sayin'

This is a shocking story, of injustice and cruelty, to the point where Schapelle is almost at the point of death.

She is an innocent caught in a minefield of corruption and politics, including the Australian media.

Instead of listening to the spiteful, who are happy to see a young woman die, I would would suggest a few links which tell the full story:

An FAQ:

A Heavy PDF:

The Oz Media:

Before being lead astray by those with an empty heart, please learn the facts on this. Please check out the detail: it will break your heart like it broke mine.

The world has to help this girl - or she is going to die.

The mom appears to be a loon.

To her defenders:

If you carry pot, you go to jail. Different countries have different laws. If someone did slip 9 lbs. of pot into her bag, don't you think she'd notice the weight change? She got caught and now has to pay the price.

This is true but didn't I hear somewhere or read that her brother was carrying the bag ????? I think she should pay for her crime but 20 years I don't know am I missing something???

And you always read people saying help her, how could I or anyone else for that matter help her??? This has been going on for years.

I'm not an expert on the details of this story by no means but from what I've seen on the HBO special and what I've read on the Internet........there was no reason for her to try and smuggle pot into Bali. It's well known, or so I've read, that pot in Bali costs cents to what it would cost in Australia - thus no one would be making any money on it.

2nd - that was a lot of pot - the package looked like a small child - how on earth did she get through two other airports before arriving in Bali with no one seeing it (the other airports didn't see it because it wasn't there).

Unfortunately it seems the judicial system is not perfect in other countries either.

I can understand why so many people think she's guilty. The media blitz surrounding her case made sensational reading. Sensation - sells papers. The media is in the business of making money. As soon as profit plays a part, you will have those who will do or say anything to sell papers.

Do not believe everything you read! - She truly is a victim of circumstance. Do your due diligence before deciding on whether she's innocent or guilty. Do not rely solely on what is written in the papers. Research the facts.

You may all be sick to death of hearing about it. But imagine just for one minute if this were your sister or daughter. How far would you go to help her. I trust that none of you would leave her there to rot in a cage.

JMHO
Etess from Canada and proud of it.

Well I can say that my kids will not be going to Bali. They're of an age where we send them on nice trips but I plan to tell them about the case. Don't want to take any chances.

I was wondering how a sentence of 20 years for pot compares to other crimes and I came across this sick story. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,563382,00.html?test=latestnews Not to mention OJ killed his wife, did less time then Schapelle, even Vince Neil from Motley Crue killed a guy drunk behind the wheel and spent less time in prison then Schapelle.......People ask what can we do to help her, thats easy..Just get sick and tired of the way things are, let it boil your blood instead of turning away and write your congressmen, who probably all smoke pot, that is when they aren't busy cheating on their wives or making us all bend over and take it.There is an army of Schapelle supporters who will not turn away, join them...Do a little digging and you'll see past the media smear campaigns and morons posting false info regarding an innocent woman.

I have been supporting and campaigning for Schapelle since January 2005. I believe I can say that I am "quallified" to make comment on this fiasco since researching everything I could from day one!
There is no way on this earth Schapelle took those drugs to Bali! I believe that they were never in Australia to begin with simply because no one takes marijuana to Bali anymore than anyone would take cocaine to Columbia, or heroin to Afghanistan, or sardines to Norway..period! No one is going to take something that would sell for $40,000 on the streets in Australia to a place that would be lucky to fetch $4,000 and with the prospect of 20 years in the can...or worse, be shot!! It's absolutely ridiculous that anyone with at least the intelligence of a pot plant could believe such nonsense!
Schapelle did everything she could think of to prove her innocence! She asked for fingerprints, baggage weight to compare with check in, dna testing for hair fragments, forensic testing for origin, an investigation by the Australian Federal Police [AFP], cctv tapes from Brisbane, Sydney and Bali....and the list goes on, but who was it that refused any of the above??? THE BALI POLICE! Why would they throw out their best evidence if they believed Schapelle was guilty?? Well, it's because they knew beforehand that conducting the tests, weights and any investigation would clear her and reveal the true culprits...the Bali police themselves! Just ask yourself, why would Schapelle be the one that was asking for the evidence to be tested if she were guilty!!! Why wasn't it that the Bali police weren't the ones to want this done and to nail her on the spot with the proof??
Bottom line is that the Bali police planted the drugs in Schapelle's bag in retribution for either Australia's criticism of the lenient sentence handed down to the Islamic Cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, spititual leader of JI [Bali bombings]...or, to qualify for UN funding for the war on drugs. No one takes marijuana to Bali! The Indonesian government knows it, the Australian government knows it and have covered up this fiasco and in my opinion, it is a conspiracy of the highest order. Please don't walk away, please support Schapelle. It could easily have been you in her shoes. Thank you from Tasmania, Australia.

Oh Please

If there is a faster way to draw the aussies out from lurking I do not know what it is.

who exactly knows what the truth is in all of this, but the family had made a $$$$ contract with one of the trashy magazines & a media outlet for "exclusive" access. Which means that whenever things go quiet we have some story flashed across the front pages - "I will never have a baby", "The love of my life", "How another Aussie (who is very very lucky not to be getting shot after being caught with 300gm of HEROIN strapped to her legs) is looking after me" etc etc.

And when that fails her sister gets her ****s inflated then poses for a mens magazine :scared1:

The Australian lawyers for the case later admitted that he had made up the story of baggage handlers shifting dope between domestic flights and that "accidentally" it was not taken out after her last domestic flight before going to Bali. That is supposedly how it got onto the flight.

But the other side of the story was that the brother was supposed to be carrying the bag + the bribe money that went with it - but he was stingy on the bribe money. The dope was supposedly hydroponic and so a better 'quality" than the stuff available in Bali.

The AFP supposedly offered all of the scientific services at the outset but the family declined???

Everybody's laws are different and that has to be accepted. Being white and pretty does not automatically excuse you from incarceraton in Asia - just ask the Bali Nine. I recall on the DIS a couple of months ago the outrage because Australia had passed a lenient sentance on an American for killing his wife on thier honeymoon by shutting off the airsupply on her scuba tank. Would it be preferable if he was sentanced to life without parole or even Death in Australian courts?

It's suspicious that of the posters on this thread 3 of them are posting for the very first time. I'm waiting to see this closed as it's beginning to smell of politics.
