Does anyone know of anything i can do to dump 95 around jacksonville and and go direct via smaller roads (hopefully scenic) to orlando...

The change of pace from the highway would probably be worth the extra hour on the trip down.

I don't know where you're driving from, but we take the scenic route through Virginia and hit 95 farther down.

From Central NJ, we take:
78W
81S
77S
26E
95S

It avoids all the big NE cities and the ride in Virginia is beautiful.

We drove down Daytona Weekend and wanted to avoid 95 in that area. We took 295 in Jacksonville, to Rt. 10 west, to 301 south. 301 merges with 27 and that will take you to either the FL Turnpike or 192 in Kissimmee. While I found 301 scenic at the beginning, once we got past Gainsville we went from doing 50 mph on a pretty deserted 4 lane road, to 50mph in traffic, stop light, stop light, stop light......50mph stop light, stop light, stop light...etc. It was a very frustrating after being in the car for 23 hours. However, I think the Daytona traffic would've made me crazier.

We did almost exactly the same thing Daytona weekend in 2004. Small towns, some warnings of speed traps, but not much traffic. Heavy rain.
In terms of time, it took exactly as long as the I-95/I-4 combination. And the hills around Clermont ... who knew there were hills in Florida?

Thanks for the quick replies... :cool1:

I'm in central jersey myself, well more or less south jersey, im in the grey between central and south...

I normally take NJ Route 70 to NJ 295 to the delware bridge and then i shoot down 95 to 4...

I'm looking at a map i just wanna shake it up a bit...especially because for the first time im going to be in florida during mid morning early afternoon...

One small correction: at Gainesvill we got right onto I-75, then switched to the Turnpike, then onto 27 near Clermont. I would do it again.

95 around Daytona isn't a problem at all! We drive by it every year. This year I actually dropped dh by the side of 95 since his friend had an extra ticket to the race :flower:

So, when you take this route:

From Central NJ, we take:
78W
81S
77S
26E
95S

Where to you get onto 95? I haven't gotten maps yet, and I've never driven to WDW, so I have no idea where these routes are. I'm thinking of driving down later this year.

Thanks.
