Hi, looking for help from experienced Ft. friends. I want to make some sort of scavenger hunt for the kids for our first day there so they can roam around and get a tour of the place basically. Any recommendations for what I can put on there?

Thanks for any help!

I was about to say the lawnmower tree, til I remembered it's gone now! :'(

Water tower
Horseshoe
Traveling show wagon
Mickey lamppost
Canoe in the water

Pool
Splash Pad
Bike Barn
Off-Leash Dog Park
Tennis Courts
Calliope (steam organ)
Basketball hoop
Abandoned railroad line (hint - look for the rise which passes through the dog park - follow it through to the 700 loop)

I've coordinated a couple of trips to the campground with large groups of kids and chaperones. One of the trips we had the kids broken up into groups according to their cabins (you can do the same with your children) and each group had their own "mascot". We then printed out pictures of their mascots and placed one of each at each riddle location. If they collected all of their "mascot flags", it was verification they solved all of the riddles.

Riddle #1

Like long ago, kids did it with trains
For a small charge, it can now be done by machine
What once had lincoln and was round,
will now be an oval and Mickey will be found.

penny press machines

Riddle #2

Smelling food all day, might be really neat,
but in my condition, I cannot eat
10ft tall, brown and hairy
If I weren't dead, I'd be pretty scary.

stuffed grizzly bear in Trail's End restaurant

Riddle #3

Very tall we stand with many faces
since we cannot move, we go no places
Three of us you'll find on your way
if to a boat you travel today

the 2 total poles on your way to the boat ramp (sadly, I believe these are gone now)

Riddle #4

Movies & Tennis are in the midst
but that's not what we are finding today
look where "help" may sit
as you splash and play

the lifeguard stand at the pool by the tennis courts

Riddle #5

Far away you have roamed,
but don't worry for too long
get on the deck
for your last flag is at home.

respective decks (campsite) where you started

Another time we went with a group of kids we did a different style scavenger hunt:

names of the horses in the horse barn

name of the 2 trading posts (Meadowfield Trading Post & Settlement Trading Post)

name of the 2 arcades located in the campground (Daniel Boone & Davy Crockett)

name the boy who fell asleep at the "lawnmower tree"

name of the camping loop you are staying in

name of the movie playing at the campfire on saturday night

name the colors of the boat flags that come to Fort Wilderness (blue & green)

what are Chip & Dale's favorite snacks? (chocolate chip cookies)

name of the closed water park located in the campground

name of the island across the water from the marina (discovery island)

name of the horse ranch where you go for horseback riding

Thanks for all the answers and ideas everyone! :flower3:
