I saw those really cute journal's on etsy and would love to make one for my DS7! I am pretty crafty and can put one together, but I need ideas for things for him to search for. What do you suggest he find? These can be things he would need to stick in the book, take a picture with, draw, etc. While I may have the know how on assembling cool things, I am not creative enough to have ideas on what to look for lol

Not sure if your DS has a common enough name, but one idea I saw was taking a picture (or getting an autograph) of a CM who shares your DS' name, or yours, etc.

Do you have an iPhone?

Ya there is this cool app
called wishingstar that's free and has scavenger hunt trivia in it. Very cool, it's worth a shot to give you ideas if you have an iPhone.
It asks things like the name of a pirate in the line of POTC and a missing word on a plaque in the line. Kind of fun and gets you looking around :)

I do have an iPhone! I will look into that. Being named Jennifer made me want to give my kids more original, unique names, so my son is named Tahoe :) I may be able to find a CM from Lake Tahoe he can take a picture with.

I did go through the Hidden Mickey's book and found a few suggestions. What would be some unique things we could pick up for free or cheap in the park that my son could stick inside his journal?

Could you explain more about the journal/scavenger hunt? I haven't seen the ones on etsy that you're talking about. I'm just a little confused on what exactly you're looking for. You're making a journal for your DS to complete and you're including things that he needs to collect to stick in it? Is that the basic idea?

What about a pin? Not sure if you could do that without having it stick out too much but some of the pins aren't that expensive. I think the cheapest ones are around $6 (?). Maybe he has to get a pin of his favorite character.

Or, how about a pressed penny? You can google lists of where they're all located and what the picture is so you could plan ahead of time one that your DS might like.

The buzz lightyear ride takes a picture of you on the ride that you can e-mail to yourself (unfortunately i've never done this since i never feel like waiting my turn). You could leave a space for the picture that you could print out when you get home.

You can get a map of the jungle cruise ride if you ask a CM at the end of the ride.

How about looking for signs that have the letters of his name. Then you can put them together to spell his name. For example, the T in the tomorrowland sign, the A from Astro blasters, etc.

He can put unused FPs in his journal and of course maps too.

Does that help?

You definitly think like me! I have a ton of stuff in the journal so far: a checklist of different characters to find and take a picture with, a page to write about other characters he finds that is not on the list, making a pressed penny, finding hidden mickeys and writing about where they are, finding "Mickey's dog" and taking a pic in his bed, finding the door labeled 33 and drawing it, searching for the longest ride in DL and describing it, find a CM from Lake Tahoe and get their autograph, finding the #7 (his age) on something, finding out what they sell at Blue Ribbon and sticking something from their on the page (a napkin, perhaps?), finding the population of Disneyland, Drawing the flag above the Matterhorn, in included the decoder for IJ so he can translate the messages on the wall, getting a license for Autopia, tracing the Dumbo boarding pass, getting a jungle cruise map, getting a HM death certificate, make a character at the animation station and put it in the journal. There are others that he needs to take photo's of or with as well.

While I have a pretty good idea of things to find in Disneyland, some of the smaller things I may be missing. I was just trying to find some other idea's so his journal has many things to find and seek out over the course of the 4 days we will be there.

The Wishingstar app could give you ideas. What rides do you know for sure that you are riding? Which ones have a long line? Try to come up with questions that he would be able to answer while waiting there. You could get them from the app or your memory if you have a good one!

How about some easy eye-spy pictures he has to match or say where they are located? Then he'd always be on the lookout for something. I'm sure you could find pictures online that you could print off and include.

Those are good ideas too! I did get the wishing star app and am excited to try it out!

I love the idea - but am a little craft/time challenged. What are the Etsy ones called??

Here is the info. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40762614

It was not very difficult to make. I am almost done with mine and can post pictures when I finish. With the move in a few days and DL in a week, I have had to spead out the work. Anyways, I made about 40 different tasks and questions. I formated my Word page into landscape view and split the page into two columns. On the top of each page half I put a question or task and then printed the page. At first I was going to print on each side of the paper, but it would not be as sturdy so I printed on one side, cut the page in half to make the two pages, and glued it to black cardstock. You put the whole book in order and can use a different color to make a cover. Disney scrapbooking supplies can help make this look nice. (I have not made it this far) Once I have the pages in order I will take it over to Staples to have it bound (only $2.50!) Super easy!!!

Hi! Im Melody, one of the ladies from the Diva trip. :goodvibes I was also one of the ladies in charge of making up the scavenger hunt questions for our time there.

I have lots of questions already made up just for DL if you would like me to send them to you. Many of them are doable for your son.

Maybe you don't need anymore, but I'd thought I'd offer anyways.

BTW-Your scrapbook idea looks adorable! :cloud9:

Have fun with your DH and son!! :goodvibes

Tinkermell,

Would it be possible for me to get a copy of this too? My family (13 of us) are going to DLR in August and thought this would be a fun thing for us to do one day. The youngest will be 14, most of us are in our 40's.

Let me know...thanks so much,

Barbi

Melody, I would love to see your questions! The more I can put in his book the better :thumbsup2

Tinkermell,

If you wouldn't mind sending me your questions as well - would love to see them! :goodvibes TIA!

Well I going to see if I can do it by PMing you all.

I'm not too computer savvy, so if you don't mind, I might have to email them to you.

In the meantime, I'm going to work on transferring them here to the DIS. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :goodvibes

What a fantastic idea. I would love to see those questions/tasks as well, Tinkermell. We're doing an entire unit study on Disneyland before we go (home schoolers), and this will make their trip journals just that much funner. I might just have to start mine this afternoon. Thanks for the great idea!
