I am going to surprise my kids ages 2&4 on xmas morning. I don't want to make clues that involved since they can't read and I will have to read them, but cute enough that they will understand what to do and pick up on the clues. Any ideas?

Thanks

we did riddles last Easter to lead them to the baskets...Christmas is more of a feeding frenzy! I'd love any ideas to slow it down as well!

Do a picture scavenger hunt - take a picture of the inside of your fridge, then in the fridge have a picture of the computer - at the computer have a picture of the bathroom sink, etc. All they have to do it go to where the picture of the item is. At the end either have a book on WDW or a stuffed Mickey and Minnie with an airplane or even the WDW planning DVD ready to play in the DVD player! Have fun - scavenger hunts like that are a blast to create!

This may be a bit complicated for your little ones, but the idea may give you a springboard for something similar...

Last year, my DH and his siblings wanted to give DMIL a clothes dryer for Christmas:confused3 Anyway... I created a scavenger hunt using the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem, changing wording where necessary to give her a clue to direct her to the next clue. It started with unwrapping a gift from under the Christmas tree. Inside the package was the clue:

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that Oma would soon look there.

Of course, there was a Christmas stocking hung on the mantle with clue #2 tucked inside it. On through the poem we went, until finally the hunt ended in Oma's laundry room.

The biggest surprise was she had absolutely no idea we had gotten a new dryer into the house two days before Christmas without her knowing.:lmao:

Have a very Merry Christmas and more fun than you can stand!!

We are trying a scavenger hunt as well for the first time this year :goodvibes
Our boys are 13 and will be 16 :scared1: by Christmas.
In order to get our youngest out side one of his clues is... "exit through the door that will make you warm no more"

In past years in order to "slow Christmas down" we have pappered off the living room, gave them puzzle boxes and wrapped gifts in the shiny wrapping paper that DOES NOT OPEN EASILY :lmao:
Another idea we have had is to move the tree to another room after they go to bed, just to make them go  :rotfl:

This scavenger hunt sounds like a really cute idea!! I was trying to figure out a way to have my DD find her Hannah Montana concert tix. This just may be the way! Thanks!

My dad has always done a scavenger hunt since I was little. My sister and I were always running through the house like crazies! Now my husband absolutely loves and is is favorite part of christmas.

A funny story: My mom also plays along but is usually never very good at getting the clues. So one year she lost and just gave up, dad gave her her present anyway. Later, mom started making breakfast and turned the oven on. And within ten minutes the oven had a fire inside b/c she had left an enveloope with a clue inside!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: I love that story and just wanted to share!

One year, we were giving my 13 year old brother in law a trip to WDW for Christmas, and that's just what we did. With no packages under the tree for him, we didn't want him to be totally disappointed, with nothing to open, so we stuck an envelope on the tree with his name on it.

When he opened it, it said, Now we're going to have some fun. You've just found clue number one! Your present isn't inside some little box...you'll have to check where we keep our socks!

So, off to our dresser he went, where he found another envelope. He ended up in the garage, the freezer, the attic, everywhere. When he finally found the last envelope, it said, "We hope this makes your Christmas very very merry...we're taking you to Disney World this coming February!"

His jaw dropped, and the paper hit the floor, and he stood there in shock for awhile, and then he started hooping and hollaring like a maniac. I have it all on video, because I followed him around the whole time. He loved it, and he still has all the envelopes and clues in a scrapbook. He won't forget it. Scavenger hunts are a great thing.
