Scary rides in MK for pre-school aged children?

Hello everyone. Sorry if this has been posted before.

Just wondering what rides were too scary for your pre-school aged children? We have been to MK a while ago but only went on a few things with our boys, 3 and almost 2 at the time. The 2 year old cried during Philharmagic, but was ok on Winnie the Pooh and It's a Small World. What other rides might be too intense? My kids are relatively sensitive- sometimes they are scared easily.

I know answers will vary- just trying to get an overall idea.

Thanks!

Vanessa

Obviously depends on the child but for my DD3. The scary rides were Snow White & Tiki Room & Haunted Mansion.

My DD was petrified of Snow White and the Haunted Mansion. She was 4. But....she loved Dinosaur at AK and that was the scariest, loudest ride I've ever been on.

My DS was 3.5 when we went - he didn't like Peter Pan's flight, if you can believe it. I think it was the dark that got him. Along those lines, he also was QUITE afraid in Pirates of the Caribbean. I really should have known better and felt horrible afterward.

That said, he had no problem with Splash Mountain. Go figure.

When my kids were younger it was:

MK: Winne the Pooh ride/ DD was freaked out!

AK: The 3-D :3dglasses movie in the Tree of Life/ DS couldn't handle this one? But yet he loved Dinosaur! :confused3

EP: Hunny I shrunk the Audience/ DS couldn't handle this either or Test Track! But he loved Maelstrom! :confused3

MGM: They loved everything here! :rotfl:

Another for Snow White. We didn't do Haunted Mansion, but I imagine that would be a little scary.

My ds didn't like Tiki Birds. He didn't really like any ride with "dolls" of any sort (including Small World and the Mexico ride). He LOVED Pirates and some of the more scary rides though.

My youngest--3 years--scares easily too.

Our last trip(he was 2 years 10 months) , he was scared of Philharmagic (dh left early with him), Goofy's Barnstormer. He didn't even want to try POTC or Haunted Mansion, so we didn't take him on those (we're going to try them our next trip this Sept).

We also skipped Tiki Birds and Snow White. I think we'll skip Snow White again, but may try Tiki Birds (with ear plugs in to help with loudness--that was his main fear at Philharmagic).

Yeah, I think it was the loudness that bothered DS2 when we went to Philharmagic. Yet my oldest (3 at the time) loved it.

What are the Tiki Birds that everyone was scared of? The Enchanted room bird show? I didn't think that was loud at all, not compared to Dinosaur! Isn't it funny how these little kids like Dino but not Snow White!

I have to disagree with Snow White. My aunt convinced my mom that we would be too scared. I finally got on it when I was 12 and all of my sisters (I'm the oldest of 5) loved it! We definitely should have gone sooner!

Honestly - my DD has been on everything she was tall enough for. She's rode Haunted Mansion at 13 months, 2 & 3 - we just laughed at the ghosts and you could hear her throughout saying "ha ha ha ha - you don't scare me" which was what I had encouraged her to do - she thought it was so much fun that she asks to do it. She LOVED philharmagic and I loved watching her reaching out in front of her - or occasionally taking her glasses off to reassure herself (again I had told her if it ever scared her to take the glasses off). She seemed to enjoy the Tiki Room - but she did talk about it later in a way that made me think it made her a little uneasy - but definitely not scared. She was on her feet clapping at the end having a good old time...but I do think the lightening and thunder, etc may not have been something she particularly liked. However....all that said she is a pretty laidback easy child. If you have a more sensitive or hesitant child I might skip HM and the Tiki Room. I don't see what's scary of Snow White though - and DD never acted even slightly uneasy on that one - but she had seen the movie. If you're unsure, maybe ride it by yourself first if you're able to and then make the call. Oh...someone else mentioned Peter Pan - DD LOVED it too. It really comes down to each individual child.

snow white ruined all of the in the dark rides for us the trip we rode it. We had a 7 year old girl, two 4 year old girls, an almost 3 boy and an almost 2 boy. The 7 year old was the only one not scared and the boys cried at winnie hte pooh and smal world just getting on them because snow white had freaked them out so bad. Later in the day after several rides that weren't so scarey we went on peter pan (just my two 4 and 2) and they loved in. In retrospect, snow white as the first ride we rode at disney world with them never having been to an amusement park before was a huge mistake. Had they rode it after the other rides it probably wouldnt have been near as bad.

Same trip i took the kids in mermaid and shrunk the audience and my hubbs had to take my son out of mermaid and I took them both out of the other. I havent even attempted its tough to be a bug yet. They love everything else but my dd cant stand the preshow of TOT and we have yet to take her on haunted mansion for the same reason. As well we haven't tried dinosaur due to the noise level.

My little boy at 5 would have rode expedition everest and tot all day if you would let him but he still remembers being afraid in snow white.

I do think a lot of it does really depend on the child. they loved the tiki room (a little bored though) and the philharmagic but they were 5 and 7 the first time they did these. Yet the fireworks still scare them, making me hesitant to invest the time in fantasmic.

Any problem my kids had when they were younger seemed to be the loudness. So we started using earplugs, worked like a charm.

MK - Haunted Mansion when they first bring you in because all of the lights go out at one point and it *is* very dark. If you held your child or made sure to have their hand held tight, that would help. Depends on the child, of course.

AK - My oldest son (who's 8) did not like Dinosaur and I'm not sure if he'll go back on next month. He said it made his heart stop.

MGM - both of my boys were adament about going on Tower of Terror and after we got off, both said they'd never go back on. It's now been a year since our trip and they still hold to not wanting to go back on.

Mine didn't complain about anything, she is 21 months and lives with a teenage brother who jumps out at her from behind doors, under beds, etc., so she is pretty hardy. I think she'll love the coasters when she is tall enough. We did all the rides she was tall enough for, but did not try the Tiki Birds, Its Tough to be a Bug, or Honey I Shrunk the Audience. She would not wear her glasses for PhillharMagic, but loved the ending. As for Snow White, her comment on our first morning back home was "Go back, ride Snow White". My niece, age 3 is terriffied of Snow White - there really is a point where toddlers get scared of things they weren't scared of when they were younger. Then they grow out of it again. you don't know where that point is, and it seems weird to me to keep kids off attractions just because they "might" be scared. Every kid is different, you never know how they will react.

I've heard some people show kids the YouTube videos of the attractions so they know what to expect.

I should add that my son loved everything on our last trip when he was 7. This trip, at 13, he did not like Space which he had loved before. He also did not like EE - because of the part going backwards in the dark. So you never know how kids will react!
