Yesterday, as I lay half dead from my very miserable cold, the phone rings. "This is the school calling, is your daughter home sick?" Boy, did I wake up.

"No, she got on the bus over 3 hours ago."

"Oh, well let me try and page her."

(Puts me on hold for an eternity)

"She isn't answering the page, I'll do some further checking and call you back."

(Now I am somewhere between sheer panic that she's been abducted and fuming anger that she skipped school).

(Phone rings).

"Hi Mom. I'm here. My first block teacher marked me absent by mistake."

Talk about a sense of relief.:D

:earseek: Well, I guess that's one way to wake up fast! I'm so glad that it was just a mistake and she is okay.

OMG! I know exactly how that feels . . .My DD is a Freshman in High School and she was marked absent one day by one of her block teachers and the school called me and told me she wasn't there.

I was so panicked and freaked out and made them see if they could track her down because I knew she wouldn't of cut class and I couldn't figure out why she was marked absent.

Turns out when the teacher was taking attendance he marked the wrong student absent.

Talk about a panic attack!

Oh man! I'm glad it turned out well.

I volunteered on the attendance line at the elementary school my kids went to (many years ago!). We ALWAYS checked with the teacher before calling home if the student was marked absent and the parent didn't call home. Sometimes the teachers mark the wrong box.

In HS, we just get an automated call in the late afternoon or evening telling us that our student missed class(es). That's a tough one when you have more than one kid attending the school! I always told my boys to get it figured out (not sure which one of them cut class more often!)
