scaring into October Super Goofs Challenge

Hey Mike- I'm in the same boat!
Two weeks off with MCM on 10/26!! I have been going to PT 3 times a week and having ultra sound treatments done plus massage and stretching exercises. At home I am on Naprosyn 500 twice a day (not thrilled about the black box warnings but its really helping) ice, rest and stretching.
At the gym I am working with a personal trainer so that I don't loose too much. At this point the only goal we are working on is to finish MCM. I am super nervous but I can't give up now. I have done alot of fund raising for the Alzheimer's Association as my charity and I can't let them down. I am the only one running from MA/NH area for Alzheimer's Association. I am super motivated and I know I can finish. Positive healing energy!

Monday- rode for 1.5 hours, elipitcal for 1 hour, stretching for 30 minutes
Tuesday- rode for 2 hours, spin class for 1 hour, Personal trainer for 45 minutes- he kicked my butt!

Hi Everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying their week. I am so happy this week as I have off on Thursday, Friday, and then Monday!!! So after tomorrow, I am looking at a 5 day weekend!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

I went to the gym today and did:

3 miles/35:30 plus 20 min stretching.

I felt great today and my fiance said to me when I was done on the TM, that I didn't even look like I was sweating...it is getting easier for me now which is a good thing!!

Sorry I don't have more time, but I have a bunch of stuff to do tonight, and I guess I should get it done!!

45 minutes of cross training and stretching for me today. Plus, forgot about my 15 minutes of stretching yesterday on top of my run, so yesterday's total is actually 50 minutes.

Maura

What is this pie talk.......wow, I shouldn't have read the posts......I love pie. The fluffy chocolate kind is great!!!!!! I want pie......darn you Mike! No more pie talk, ok?

Tuesday's totals

Time: 60 min
Miles: 5

I think I have dh talked into a road trip for that butterfinger pie.......

I am taking a rest day instead of trying to run 4 days in a row. My legs are sore from all the hill work and so I am "listening to my body." Today was a 4 miler so I can squeeze that in this weekend instead. Besides! its raining!!!!

Cecilia

Well, Mike made me do it...I made APPLE PIE last night (we went apple picking on Sunday, so it seemed like the right thing to do!)

PIE! yum........ no more pie talk!!!! You all are killing me!!!!! So, what's your favorite pie?????? Cecilia, let me know how the butterfinger pie is!

Beth

We just celebrated my DH's bday last week and instead of cake, his fav is French Silk pie from Perkins. I had a very small slice but it was heaven. My fav is cherry pie with chocolate ice cream, has to be chocolate. Anyways, enough of that...back to training for Race for the Taste.

hmmm... If I didn't expect to be in the office all weekend, I might consider making a pie.

Rode for 2 hours then ran (!) for 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Tendonitis flaired up again but I had PT after. Therapist did some creative taping to try and reduce the swelling but I am so frustrated.

Wow...all this talk of pie makes me hungry!!! That peanut butter pie sounds so good!!!!

Today, I hit the gym and did the TM again. I have found that I am more motivated to go to the gym with my fiance so I am sticking with it for my shorter runs during the week, and I will do my LR's outside at a local park on the weekends.

Today's workout:
4 miles/47:35 15 min. stretching

I actually went back last night and compared this year's training log to last year's when I was training for my first full, and I was amazed. Last year I missed so many training runs along the way (which is what probably led to my IT band problems) but this year, I have only missed one run during week 1, I am so glad that I am getting this workouts in and these shorter runs are seeming a lot easier now. I guess that is good, right!

groovygirls--sorry to hear you are frustrated. I definetely know that feeling. You have still been working out quite a bit despite the injury. Last year right before the WDW full, my IT band's were terrible. I took two weeks off and stuck just to the elliptical 4 times a week for 30-45 min, and I felt much better. I didn't really loose any fitness and I was fine during the marathon. You may want to cut back on some of those big workouts the next couple of weeks to rest. Hang in there!!

Cecilia--Glad to hear you are listening to your body and taking that rest day. I need to remember that myself sometimes!

To everyone else, Keep up the good work!!!

OK, all this pie talk is making me hungry for something sweet! I personally like cream pies - coconut, banana, chocolate, pumpkin, custard and pies with lots of meringue or whip cream. I also like apple, chess, pecan...Oh, heck, I like all kinds of pies! Now see what you've started, Mike!!!

Tuesday, Oct. 7:
Steve: 1 hour (gym)

Wednesday, Oct 8:
Susie: 16 miles, 1 hour
Steve: 16 miles, 1 hour

I got back on the treadmill tonight. I really wish I had taken some Aleve an hour or so before starting because my knees were killing me. Here's my total for the night:

2.13 miles for 37:05

I need to load up on meds now to make my body feel better. Oh yeah and lots of vitamin C since my nephew has strep throat and I was at his house this weekend.

Wednesday...45 mins mowing, edging and sweeping in 90 degree heat
30 mins bike/6.11 miles

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Wow am I glad I missed all that pie talk......:teeth: I raise pie pumpkins in the garden and there is just nothing better than a fresh from scratch pumpkin pie.......:goodvibes

Mike, there was a question in RW this month about if you could substitute bike miles for running and the answer was YES, you have to ride 3.5 miles for every 1 mile running though. Good news/bad news I guess.

Cecilia, great job listening to your body, now if you could only fight the urge for that pie.....

Suzanne, you must be getting so excited for RFtT!!

Joanne, hang in there. Just remember that no matter how much money you have raised, it is not worth a permanent injury. The old question of "would you rather run today or would you rather still be running the next 10 years" is still worth considering.

Megan, careful with the Aleve before a workout. It really taxes your liver. I hope your knees feel better!!:wizard:

Beth, just keep thinking of the big picture and not the little one of the pie. Hop on the wagon, you are the one steering remember....:scared:

Laurie, 5 day weekend. Color me jealous. I only get Saturday off....:sad2:

Angie, where's my piece.......popcorn::

Susie, how goes the training for the century ride???

Maura, way to stay consistent.

Kim, look how much faster you are getting!!

As for me, I am going to apply the bike theory and use the elliptical for awhile. I ran on Tuesday for 4 miles and though my time was still at a 10 mpm pace, my toe was so painful after the run that I set out on a great inspection. I tried to trim the nail and it brought tears to my eyes. No lifting, no bruising, no anything, just pain. Apparently it wants a break. My only race upcoming is ToT and I have heard rumors of a traveling party in the rear of the race so I may be there.....:upsidedow

Have a great day Goofs!!

Ugh. I thought I was getting faster, but I've had two slow days back to back. Yesterday was 2 miles in 25:13. I'm taking 2 "rest" days before RftT and hope that will help.

Suzanne, I see they have scattered t-storms in the forecast for Sunday. No chance of that in the morning, right??? I'll be so disappointed if they have to cancel the race!

pixiedust: :flower3: ....to all those fighting injuries, fatigue, soreness, and even pie-envy. May your troubles quickly pass.

3.75 miles for me today, along with another round of stretching. I've really come to look forward to the stretching. It doesn't take that long but it feels so good! Total time: 50 minutes.

Tomorrow is rest day (I think) Still looking at training plans for this half. I like some things about the Higdon (stuff is in miles instead of minutes, and the weekday cadence is better) but the MFM plan seems to have an interesting take on the long runs. Since I'm only in week 3, it all works out about the same right now.

The weather guy keeps saying afternoon storms, about 40%, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. High's in the upper 80's. Low about 72.
