I'm glad that Reilly's okay, Lauri! Pets ARE a part of the family, so worrying about them is normal.
You did the right thing by getting that bump checked out. My dog took a fall down the steps in January, and after a few days of favoring his front right paw, we called the vet and scheduled an appointment for two days later. In the meantime, Denny developed a bump just above his paw that we thought was swelling from his injury; the vet agreed when we took Denny in later that week. The vet thought Denny just sprained his paw, gave him some pain medicine, and told us that if Denny was still limping in two weeks to call him back.
Two weeks pass, Denny is still limping, and that bump is growing larger. We call back the vet, he takes x-rays, and notices that the bone just above Denny's paw was eroding; the vet was confident that the bump was cancerous, but he refered us to a veterinary oncologist just to be safe. Sure enough, that bump was a cancerous bone tumor, and Denny wasn't exptected to live longer than 6 months. Rather than put Denny through 6 months of pain and suffering, we put Denny to sleep that afternoon.
It turns out that the weakened bone caused Denny to fall, and that lump would have developed regardless of whether Denny fell or not. It came as a shock to all of us - we were thinking that Denny just sprained his paw.
You definately did the right thing, Lauri - don't feel bad about it!
