We are flying to Disney on Friday. As excited as I am, they are saying that we will have a wind advisory on Friday of 40+ MPH winds. Do you think that our flight will be delayed? This may be a dumb question, but I don't know anything about planes!
Thanks!

I'd say you've got a pretty good chance of system-wide delays, as the front that is bringing that wind is going to affect more than just Philly.

In fact I think that anyone flying for the next week in the mid-west and along the entire east coast should prepare for possible delays.

I always start to stress about a week before we fly and I am already stressing....we leave a week from tomorrow ......they did change our flight so we dont go to NY coming or going.....so that is good.....still stressing though....

I just checked the weather and for Friday they are only showing winds in the teens. Also the winds are out of the North, and that is the runway alignment at the airport, so the flight will be landing directly into the wind.

Actually I am a licensed pilot and I would have no problem landing with a 40 MPH headwind. I would have problems with a light plane in a 40 MPH wind crossing the runway, but commercial jets are much more controlable and also the pilots are much more experienced than me.

This is why I hate traveling in the winter time!

I've had just as many delays in the summer.

This is a great site for fearful flyers to check out: www.takingflight.us/forums

They don't sell anything and there are commercial pilots from Southwest Airlines and other airlines there to answer your questions. I saw there was a question just this morning about wind shear. Check them out! :)

They can predict strong winds but they usually never issue official advisories or warnings till at least 24 hours before they expect it to occur. Winds could be less than expected. Airports are very good at not allowing traffic to take off or arrive if the winds exceed their safe limits. From a safety standpoint, don't worry. From a inconvenience standpoint, wind delays usually aren't more than a couple of hours, but the traffic could back up, depending on the airport.

They have a message board that may help calm your nerves. :)

This is where I go for all of my fear of flying needs :thumbsup2 You are NEVER obligated to buy anything; I never have and am a recovering fearful flyer of almost 3 years now. I just went to chat, used the message boards and talked to other fearful flyers.

Good luck with your trip!!! :goodvibes
