OK, I've had my part time job in the school library for the past 1 1/2 years. I've also been a sub for serving in the kitchen at the school where my kids go for that time. I've worked for the school 12-15 hours a week. I'm nervous, because today I have a meeting with my boss to tell her that my last day at the library will be March 12th.

Without even looking, a job sort of fell into my lap. It's for our church. It's a part time secretary position (not answering phones and things like that, but more of the paperwork, organizing and other things like that)...it's 20-25 hours a week and the pay is $2 more per hour. That extra pay is wonderful! AND only 10 of those hours (I get to choose those) will be at the church. The other 10-15 hours can be worked from home (or anywhere I can bring my computer!!!!).

AND, I will have my summers off becase there is a teacher who does this job every summer when she's on break from school.

I'm not worried about my new job- I've done paperwork and things for the church just by volunteering. I'm actually very excited about my new job!!

What I am totally worried about is how mad my boss will be that I'm quitting. Maybe I'm over worried, there's no way to know until I have my meeting with her today.

I want to leave on good standings with the school, because I still can go back there and be a sub when they need me. AND, I do want to go help out with my daughters classrooms every once and a while. This new job allows me to be very flexible. BUT, I cannot do both jobs every week. There is no way I can do that.

So, now my heart is racing like it's going to jump out of my body, my stomache feels sick and I can't wait until it's over! I am also worried that my last 2 1/2 weeks at this job will be horrible, because my boss will be mad at me! Who knows, maybe I'm too worried about nothing?

If your boss gets mad, that's her issue not yours. People quit jobs for something better all the time.

I wouldn't worry about it. I hope that the new job is a good one!

No worries! Keep it brief. Explain that a better opportunity has come your way and you need to accept it. You have enjoyed working there and are handing in your 2 week notice today.

I'm sure there are others waiting to jump on that job too.
I volunteered in the school library for a couple hours a week. When the librarian was having surgery and would be out for 2 months they wanted me to VOLUNTEER to do that job full time! I politely declined.

I would think that there would be loads of people wanting a cool "mom job" like the one you are giving up.
I wouldn't worry about it. If she gets angry over someone quitting with notice -then she has a problem.

OHHHHHH, it's done...big sigh of relief! She was not mad at all, but quite understanding in fact. Now that I look back, it's one of those things that I think "why was I so worried and stressed out about that?" But, I truely didn't know how mad she'd be- she actually said "I can see that you're nervous...you don't need to be. You're doing everything the right way." So, after that I calmed down a bit.

We've made an agreement. I will start my other job the week of the 15th and when I find out my hours that I'll be in every month (10 hours a week)...I'll let her know and she said the school will still pay me if I'd like to fill in or come back to sub for the kitchen for the rest of this year. Then, from next year and on I'll be a sub. If it works it works, if not- then oh well.

With this new job I'm very excited, now I'll actually get to go into my daughters classrooms a few times a month and help the teacher with projects when I have time. I use to do that a lot, but hadn't had time to do it since my job there. I'll also be able to go in and eat lunch with them two or three times a month, which I couldn't do before, because my hours at work didn't allow for me to do it.

wow, big stress relief to be done with that!
