Just read the news report about Disney being a possible target. We're going at the beginning of August. Just really flipped out about it!
We went to Paris in 2014 and stayed literally two blocks from where that horrific hostage scene happened last November. My husband and I literally walked right past the theater every day we were there where all of those people were killed. And now this in Orlando...it's just all hitting so close to home and it's terrifying.
I just truly hope that Disney amps up security in the wake of this past weekends tragic events!
I stayed in Paris and left two weeks before that event. As a personal experience, it doesn't matter if you were there two minutes before it happened as long as you weren't there when it did. When I was in Europe there was security presence everywhere. You couldn't go into anyplace without going through a metal detector. They were very visible and that is probably the way we have to be, at least of awhile.
What happened in Orlando, which BTW is 15 miles from WDW, is random. This involved two things, a sick mind and a hating mind. He targeted a specific group. A place like WDW would require the elimination of a number of people that he allegedly wasn't upset with, so, other then the fact that it is a public place, there is no real reason to actually target WDW. That doesn't mean that someone with an evil intent wouldn't do it, but, it would be, even if you were in the park, a slim chance of being hurt. The place is too big. Where does one start. Be cautious and watchful, but, don't just hide away over something that probably won't happen anyway. It can, but, that, like I said, that has been a possibility for many years.
You take as much of a chance getting there as being there. Many people seem to forget the hundreds of people killed by bombs on airplanes. Hundreds at a time. Much more carnage then this one was. That is not to say that this one wasn't horrific, of course it was, but, it isn't the biggest happening ever. Disney has known to be a possible target since before 9/11 so there is no more reason to worry about it now then there has been for years now. That is why they have increased security, added metal detectors and so on. Beside, do you really want to live your life in constant fear? I don't. We can't and we shouldn't alter our lives to be petrified of the idiots out there. That is what they wanted to do and we cannot allow them to get that satisfaction.
The news has speculated the he checked out WDW, I'm not sure I'm buying that. Even if he did, he made the decision that WDW was not the place to make his stand. How do they know, what they have is a dead body. Whether or not he seriously gave any thought to doing that is pure guessing. If anyone actually knew that was his intent and didn't report it... should be prosecuted as an accomplice.
